Dakich Responds!!
Marshall
I didn't once compare our university to Marshall I was only providing the Randy Moss example of a player with past problems who went on to succeed, who just happened to go to Marshall. And as for rather having a team that went .500 every year, I don't think many coaches would be around that long with those kinds of results.
kamman,
I can see your point and I know you were not trying to directly compare us to Marshall.
This subject has always been a touchy one for me. I want to see our athletic programs succeed as much as anyone else, but what I'm really proud of is that we tend to have athletes that are good people and students first. I would like to see that continue. I think the same can be said for many or even most of the schools in the conference.
My comment about going .500 every year was just my way of making a point. I think we can do much better than that without having to 'settle' on good athletes who are not so good students or who have a history that we don't need to take a risk on. We've done pretty well in the past, so why not now?
I guess that my whole point is, if we need to sacrifice our standards to get to another level, I would rather not. I see no reason why we can't be successful and still recruit good students who want to work hard.
