Yeah...for the first time in god knows how long I don't think athleticism is our problem.

From the games I've seen this team flat out cannot make a jump shot. I'm not sure how you teach shooting, but until they start knocking these shots down we're going to continue to struggle. Guys like Brown & Thomas I expect to make these shots with consistency and both are putting up bricks right and left. Neither is shooting 41% from the field and both are even more abysmal from 3 point range. This a year after Brown was one of the best 3 point shooters in the MAC last year.

Hammb pretty much sums it up. Dee Brown, Scott Thomas, and Joe Jakubowski HAVE to be able to knock down the open jumper when it's there. Cam Black has looked great inside for being a freshman. I think A'uston Calhoun has a world of talent as well, the problem is his decision making. When he gets the ball and plays within the flow of the offense, he's great and has some strong post moves. Too many times he tries to force the issue. It's almost like he knows he's good and tries to do too much.

It's a different feeling for me. When we had those bad teams the last few years under Dakich, it was like we are bad and we are not talented enough to get better. Dusan was just Dusan. Brian Guerin was just Brian Guerin.

But Dee Brown, by God, is Dee Brown!

Apparently I am seeing something completely different than a lot of people on this site. I was at all the home games minus duquesne (thankfully) and was in Detroit for the tournament. I see a lot of people saying there is no improvement and that our defense is horrible and we don't have shooters. I think we have too many shooter that want the ball. Scott Thomas, Dee Brown, A'uston Calhoun, Jordan Crawford all love to shoot the ball... moreso than sharing the ball. What I saw in Detroit was a huge improvement. Minus Calhoun, I saw the team sharing the ball and looking for the extra pass to get a better shot, including Crawford passing up a semi difficult lay up he would usually take to give Dee Brown an easy 2 points. This is stuff that has never happened earlier in the season. Also I think the team is finally getting the energy it needs to compete. With the high energy minutes from Ogelsby and Dabney, the team seems to have a new gelling attitude. As for defense, with the obvious exception of Duquense, the team has shown a lot of life on defense including against some solid shooting teams including Michigan, Albany, and the solid post game of Detroit. This team has a lot of promise and is starting to gel together finally , too bad it happens right before Michigan State, and this team is getting better and this shooting slump can't last forever. Have hope

Everyone keeps saying they will get better throughout the season. Every other team practices and gets better also. I have a hard time seeing a time that gets beat by Niagra, Howard, and Albany will be any sort of factor in the MAC. No matter how bad the MAC is.

I hope I'm wrong.

Most teams improve over a season, but some much more than others. We have a team that is (a) young up front, and (b) is in a shooting slump. Both are "weaknesses" that can get much better in a short time, relatively speaking. Another consideration is that we have had a cluster of games over a short duration. Personally, I'm no where near given up on a winning season.

I have completely given up on a winning season, but not a winning season in the MAC or a MAC championship. This team is moving in the right direction.

We would have to go 15 and 8 over the remaining games for a winning season. It just won't happen. But this team should be just about at the right spot come MAC play.

To God be the glory.

To the offense be the jump shot.
