All kidding aside, this policy is at the request of the donor, who wishes to keep as low a profile as possible during this whole process...ZiggyZoomba wrote:Pencils and notepads are welcome...BGDrew wrote:Um......what? Congrats to the basketball program!ZiggyZoomba wrote:All kidding aside, this policy is at the request of the donor, who wishes to keep as low a profile as possible during this whole process...ZiggyZoomba wrote:Pencils and notepads are welcome...BGDrew wrote:Um......what? A selfless, low profile, rich donor who wants to donate money to BGSU = w1n. I think it expounds on the generosity even more... the donor doesn't want to be the center of attention... they want BGSU basketball to be the center of attention. Awesome!

The generosity shown the University by this individual, the Sebo, Stroh and many other families is truly inspiring. The table is set for the program...and hopefully the entire athletic department by extension...to take big step forward.

The Bowling Green State University Athletics Department will hold a press conference on Wednesday, Jan. 19 at 6:15 p.m. to announce the single, largest gift in BGSU’s history, designated to benefit the men’s basketball program. The gift is also the largest one-time gift ever designated to a Mid-American Conference basketball program.
From The Blade -
University sources say the gift that will be announced Wednesday will be used to increase salaries for coaches, to buy games against big-name opponents, to increase recruiting budgets, to enhance student support in terms of academic and conditioning, and to increase marketing of the men's basketball program.

While this money is only for the men's basketball program, I would think that it would have a huge impact on all other sports as this would undoubtedly free up some funds for other areas. I am not positive on how the accounting all works, but it sure seems like it would help other sports, at least tangentially.

First off... I want to say congratulations... thats an amazing gift however large it is.
Second... scholarships are expensive to endow, but the residual savings would be worth it to any institution at any level. I hope the money is well spent and will help elevate not only BG but the MAC as a whole

We'll cut you some slack because you haven't really been around that long yet, but the Dan Raupp comment was a joke.orangeBGbrown wrote:I know for a fact it is not him. Re: HUGE announcement tomorrow!!!
I happen to be involved in some conversations about endowed chairs and endowed scholarship at the U. An endowed chair takes about $150K (minimum), while an endowed scholly starts at $25k. This donation is HUGE in terms of funding scholarships and endowing some part of the coaching salaries.
This type of donations takes years to groom and everyone at the U who took part in this over the years should be commended. And Mr. Frack is right..... "everyone at BG is just so nice, even before I donated the money" (paraphrasing).
Grant.... thanks for an excellent job of keeping us all informed and representing AZZ.com and all of its members with the U.
