I've been highly casual for years now, and am only starting to tune back into things as I used to. And then only because of working 15 minutes from home, living in BG, and life presenting me with time to re-engage. Plus I won't say that the bling factor of a new building isn't appealing.
What I would toss into this, is that we face the same kind of cycle we had under Jim Laranaga. Not bad enough to break out the pitch-forks. Not good enough to make us happy. Only in this case, as much due to a really lousy conference as anything, there is a title sitting in the middle of the coaches current run.
I distinctly recall there being much talk of not renewing Jimbos contract even after he won the MAC. Thankfully he got the gig at George Mason, and the mess that would have come from ditching a "winning" coach didn't occur. Even if doing so would have been the right thing, as it was with Greg Brandon in football.
In Orrs case, I dare say there isn't more talk of firing him within BG proper, due to his very talented son playing for BGHS. If Laranaga had sent Jay or John to BGHS, folks would have claimed to adore him. (and I think sending them to St. Johns was perfectly understandable personally.)
I'll decline to judge on the other aspects of his coaching until I've had longer to follow them.
Is now the time?
