Easily our best win of the season. WKU was picked to win the Sun Belt.
GO BG!!!
Re: Western Kentucky
I don't have much to add regarding individual players than what I said during the game or looking at the box score. The refs called this game a ticky tack as can be. If this is the sort of game the new rules are designed to create...yippee...boring as he'll for the final 10 mins or so.
As I said our defense really caused issues for wku and unlike usual we were able to turn our defense into offense. With black in foul trouble early we had a lot of athletes on the court and we're able to run and gun and score a lot of buckets in transition or early in the clock. In a game like this Holmes, Sealey, and Parker really excelled.
Still even getting some good looks in transition we didn't shoot very well...but we went to the line constantly and after my first half bitching we really shot free throws pretty well in the second half.
We played fairly well and I'm happy we won a game that became a free throw contest. I'd still like to see the guys more consistently finish the shots but it worked out pretty well tonight.

I just wish the officials could find a happy medium between constant "clutch and grab" versus a "whistle blowing" contest. Neither extreme makes for entertaining basketball!
Re: Western Kentucky
Agreed. I love basketball, but I can't stand the way it is often officiated. When you have 10 guys on the floor you are going to have some contact. Not all of it deserves a damn whistle. When there's a foul, call it, but when it's a play-on, swallow the damn whistle and let the guys decided it on the floor.factman wrote:I just wish the officials could find a happy medium between constant "clutch and grab" versus a "whistle blowing" contest. These guys were a little green as well it seemed, called everything that could have been a foul, many on both teams were absolutely not one. In transition games like this you're taught to not be ticky tack about the ones you call because of how fast the game is going, call the obvious ones only.
BG's half court offense is pretty bad though, they do not rotate the ball well at all. I don't understand why for the life of me that WKU kept trying to pass through the zone instead of rotating the ball around and shooting perimeter shots or trying to get lanes open in the half court. But it worked out for us so who cares, good win and hopefully we play well next week as well

It's funny because even my fiancee pointed that out. She goes just to experience the atmosphere, hang with me, and she enjoys the dancing/cheerleaders. She's really not into basketball at all. Still, she humors me and goes to the BG games, and went to the Cavs/Heat game with me as well.falconawesome19 wrote: BG's half court offense is pretty bad though, they do not rotate the ball well at all.
She noticed it in the Cavs game how the Heat passe the ball without looking and the Cavs couldn't do that. Then at the game the other night she was like, "WKU passes the ball so fast...ours seem slow". I was just like, "yep, same as the Cavs compared to the Heat" that's what good teams do.
Made me chuckle, but it's not a good sign when even the most non-basketball savvy among us can clearly see our inability to move the ball around.
As for the fouls, I think there was one time in the 2nd half where of the 10 guys on the court 5 of them had 4 fouls and 3 had 3. That's insane.

Re: Western Kentucky
Oh I know for a fact that opposing MAC schools do not even literally scout our offense. Just prepare for transition and defense, that's how non existent it is. Way too much standing around and watching Cam Black, but they are not coached to do otherwise. That's the thing, you can preach defense all you want but the sport itself is offensive in nature
