Akron at BG - do we Just forfeit right now???
Re: Akron at BG - do we Just forfeit right now???
I am kind of with Hammb on this. I by no means think that our staff is the answer going forward, but I actually think this team has over achieved. Going into the season I thought we'd be lucky to win 10 games, my only hope was the losing Crawford and his erratic play help the offense

Which it actually did to some degree. The thing I dont get is our overall lack of talent. Even if we are all in agreement that skill development is a major problem, we should still be stocked with a steady level of talent after moving into the stroh. Some people look at our team and think the players arent improving enough, and I dont disagree, but to we havent recruited well enough after moving into a brand new arena.

How bad is Orr at managing his timeouts? Forget all the times he calls timeouts 15 seconds before a media timeout throughout a game and season. Akron calls a timeout to set up a play on offense. Orr could just design his offensive play for BG's next possession, but wastes a timeout immediately after Akron scores. How nice would it have been to have an extra timeout in the final 20 seconds? I've never seen a coach enter the final minute of close games without a timeout like Orr does. I won't even get into the play he drew up for Clarke's final shot. WOW.

Total agreement, 44. The timeout situation was ludicrous at the end.
Then they got bailed out by the miracle banked home 3 ball.
Then the team looked completely shocked that Akron would consider shooting without taking a timeout.
Major kudos to the guys for battling and playing their asses off, but the coaching was, again, horrible. I am so ready for the end of the Orr era (and I have booed the announcement of him as HC every game the past 2 years). Even as upset as I am with the coaching staff, I don't think they'd purposely put Sealey out there and cost him a shot at medical redshirt without his blessing. I also find it hard to believe they'd be ignorant of the rules (and I do have a pretty low opinion of them). I could be wrong, but I really think this is a situation where either Sealey was uninterested in coming back for another year, or perhaps the advisors made it clear he was unlikely to get a 5th year so he may as well play. I don't know which, but I think both of those possibilities are far more likely than the coaching staff doing it unknowingly or against Craig's wishes.

The NCAA can get funny about each case, below is one example, although it is not like Sealey's.Globetrotter wrote:Bad enough not to play but not bad enough to be redshirted? Interesting.

There are many other denied medical redshirt stories all over the internet. Many for different reasons.

This team works plays hard. They are not at the competing at a championship level. That is where the program needs to be every 2-3 years. In 3 years at the Stroh we have only seen teams that can compete with the championship level teams not compete for the championship.
I still like this team and will continue to enjoy watching them compete. There have been fewer frustrating game this year than last and that seems to be because we are more aggressive on defense half & full court which leads to transition baskets.
