Captain Orr plans to go down with the ship

"Ball State has won 93 league and division championships since joining the MAC in 1973 and 14 of those have been in men's and women's basketball....But we've been waiting a long time for our men's team to give us a performance that brings us into (the NCAA's)...We believe that this is the beginning of a new era of greatness in men's basketball."

While that is nice and all, its still just talk, and talk doesn't mean anything. This could have been the exact same thing Ball State's president said after they hired Billy Taylor, or what any president says when hiring a new coach, you could easily tweak the years and conference and it could work for many other schools. All presidents and ADs have to have a quote like at the intro press conference because you have to "win the press conference" nowadays. When we do hire a new men's basketball coach I expect Mazey to say something smiliar to this. Everyone may laugh at it and say its not true, but again its about winning the press conference

It was a really nice thing the Ball State president said, and as a fan its what I want to hear, but it doesn't mean that James Whitford is going to bring greatness to the court and Ball State is gonna dominate the MAC and make multiple NCAA trips. Ball State won the presser, now they have to back it up on the court, and its no guarantee they will. Time will tell, just like with all coaching hires

I with you, change needs to be made and I'm just as pissed as everyone else that it hasn't been made and that we will have the same men's basketball coach next season and that change won't be happening until next March. That being said I'm not gonna go out of my way to pat the president of Ball State on the back for some recycled cliche quote from a intro press conference.

13-14 is optimistic for this upcoming team. It may have some talent, but it's inexperienced and being coached by a passive milquetoast who is content with "god's willingness".

I meant the 2013-14 season...lol. But I agree, 13-14 for this year's team would be overachieving. I care because it's BG....but the program doesn't excite me in the least bit right now.

I'm with you there freak, I care because it's BG, and thats about it. Only thing I'm looking forward to is the season scheduled being released. That way we know what day is Orr's last game, plus I'm always interested to see who is on the OOC schedule no matter the sport at BG

Absolutely 100% correct. Show me something, anything that indicates they have a legitimate desire to field a winning program. The only thing worse than cliches and empty promises is not even pretending to care. When has Mazey said anything about the role of athletics and the expectations she has?

Like BleedOrange noted before, not only has our leadership shown zero indication that they know what to do to win, it is growing increasingly obvious that they simply have no pressing or immediate desire to do so. They can't win the press conference because they were too apathetic, timid and weak to even have a press conference.

The most disappointing thing about Orr's comments is that there seems to be no sense of urgency to improve, no recognition of how we've failed in the past and no plan to rectify the errors. When the president is disinterested and disengaged it filters down and, in our case, has infected the mentality of the head freaking coach of the program.

By Orr making changes, he would essentially publicly acknowledge that his job is in deep jeopardy and that he's been a failure. He'll maintain his pretensions for the facade of personal dignity. Changes were needed long ago, and he should have resigned by now.
