Let the AD pick his own when he shows up. Problem solved. It's unorthodox timing but not unheard of.
So who is firing Orr, Dr. Mazey? I just think bringing a coach in at the end of June does as much harm to the program as letting Orr stick around. There was no right answer.
Sadly, this is where I'm at on the situation as well.

There just wasn't a right answer. You don't want an exiting AD to hire a new hoops coach. And you aren't likely to land a good coaching candidate in the middle of summer if you had waited for Kingston to hire one.

In a perfect world I would have preferred to fire him and let Kingston hire a guy this summer, but I just fear we would have ended up taking whoever we could get and being no better off for the next several years. The Lame Duck season has been awful, obviously. No doubt it's set our program back another year or two by killing multiple recruiting classes. Unfortunately, I'm not sure there was a legitimately decent option this past summer.

The real issue is that our former AD didn't see that this was an issue 2 years ago and fire Orr when he finally had "his guys" and still barely mustered a .500 season and first round tourney exit.

He should of never been there in June for it to be a decision for the new AD. His ass should have been gone in March once he got embarrassed on his home floor by one of the worst teams in the MAC. And in all actuality, he should have been gone in March of 2012. Just think where this program could be right now if we had a new coach starting the 2012-2013 season. Light years ahead of where were at now. Should have never, ever been a decision for the new AD. Christopher was just trying to save face so he could make himself look more appealing for his next job by not having to fire one of his own hires. He totally screwed this program by his selfishness.

Sorry, Hammb. I must be working too hard, but I just thought that was one of the funniest things I read today.
Haha, no doubt! Don't think she hasn't reminded me from time to time how many basketball games she's sat through! She likes going to the games, but she doesn't even pay attention anymore. She likes the people watching, dance team, and cheer squads... When she watches the game she'll say stuff like, "they pass the ball a lot faster than we do" and comments like that. I'm just like, "Yeah that's what GOOD teams do..."

Christopher could have done a interim coach for a season, like he did in women's soccer. Oh wait, that was more moronic than keeping Orr.

Exactly..we're going to fire Orr and pay him and then hire an interim coach and pay him too...nobody decent would work on those terms so the results would have been just as bad.

Once it became clear that GC was leaving, there was no way we weren't going onto this year with Orr. You don't saddle the new AD with a coach (with a four or five year deal) on your way out the door and you don't drop a major hiring decision on him as he walks in....the guy doesn't even know where to park and he has to hire a coach?

The situation sucked and sucked hard...but it played out the only way it could.
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

This says it all. Could have, should have and would have all meet the realty of situation. Are we satisfied? No. Were there any positive options? No.
