Okay, I live in Columbus and follow OSU pretty closely. First, there has been NOTHING about Thad leaving because of his back; in fact, things seem to have stabilized for him on that front. His problem stems from a surgery that didn't work, not a degenerative condition.OptionQB wrote:I want nothing to do with Boals There has been very little player development down there with this group and if my Buckeye fan friends are right, he's a short term solution as Thad allegedly has a degenerative back condition and his time is limited in the head chair.
Second, the lack of development of the junior class here is hardly a reflection of one coach and more likely a reflection of a series of recruiting misses -- combined with the fact that the people who were scorers in that class (Thomas and Sullinger) both left early. The class includes two high school All Americans, Amir Williams and Scott, and there's no accounting for the lack of development offensively for either player. We do know that the class of centers of which Amir was a part of was very weak, and it has continued to be that way.
Boals is an excellent coach, especially of big men (look at who else he has coached at OSU, including Sullinger) and an excellent recruiter. BG would be very lucky to get him as a coach. Even if Matta DID leave early (not happening), I would think Boals might be on a short list to replace him, but I'd say it would be more likely that OSU would go after someone who has been a head coach for a while (think Miller at Arizona) as opposed to someone with just a year or two under their belts.
Hope that clears things up. There is no reason for BG fans not to want Boals as a candidate for this job. None. He would likely be an excellent head coach.
