The 4:00 games on weekdays are an odd choice, to say the least, but other than that the schedule looks fine to me. NO real marquee home games, but I wasn't expecting any yet anyhow. There is something to be said for playing a lighter schedule in a coach's first season. I look for Jans to make changes to this program's culture and style of play. Once those things are cemented then I think we'll start a more ambitious schedule.

I don't usually go out of my way for the Exhibition games anyhow, so I don't care when they play that one. Not a fan of playing the 4:00 home game the day before Thanksgiving, but I understand they probably did it to avoid a conflict with the UT football game. That does kinda suck, but not enough to really make me bitch too much. To me the football schedules are a much greater issue because Football is set up so you really don't want to miss a single game. On top of that football is a tailgating/all day event, so poor game times really put a damper on how much you can enjoy the entire day, IMO. Basketball I'm less concerned with.

What's wrong with this schedule. Other than the first two home games are at 4:30 PM on a Friday and 4:00 PM on a Wednesday, the remainder of the schedule is almost like every other year.
I know you can read because you read my post. I stated specifically that I wanted to attend games and couldn't because they were at 4:00 on weekdays. Then you say other than the first 2 home games at 4pm on weekdays.

I can't wrap my head around you most times. Don't read more than is written please.

Scheduling a game at 4 is essentially saying we don't care if people actually go to this game. That's not a good attitude to have for the program. You might as well schedule it for 11am or simulate it using an advanced computer system.

Thanks for the snarky reply.

I'm at a loss. Our first two games are at 4:30 and 4:00 PM on weekdays.

What's wrong with the final 13 home games?

Oh I agree, but the Exhibition games are pointless, don't really count, typically have less than 500 in attendance, and I think are even free. They could play that game at 2:30 on a Tuesday and I wouldn't care.

I agree playing a real game in the afternoon on a weekday is a brutal decision. I'm going to guess that was just the only day they could get it scheduled and the really didn't want to compete with the football game. I find it interesting because I doubt that anybody will be able to attend both games regardless, but I suppose you could watch the hoops game and get home in time to see the football on TV? I would have obviously preferred they move the game to Tuesday at a normal time, but if they were stuck with that date, I'm not sure what to say. As a season ticket holder I probably won't attend that game whether it's at 4 or 7, that night. And honestly the 4 time slot might be more likely for me to catch it if I can duck out of work early before the holiday. There's almost no chance I'd go to the game if it were at the same time as the football game on TV.

I think they were probably in a lose/lose situation on that one...

It's safe to assume that the South Florida, Detroit, Western Kentucky, and Wright State games were from previous scheduling agreements. They were opponents last year and the venues chaged this year. Drake, Southeast Missourt St, Alabama A&M, Dayton, Ferris State, and Chicago State would have been set up by the new staff.

I assume they were trying to take advantage of whatever extra school pride there is that day. It's annually the biggest sports day for BG, such as it is. Basketball at 4:00. 2 hour break. Football against UT. It works better when the BG has the home football game, but I'm not going to criticize them for trying to be creative.

And if we want to change the culture, the TOTAL negative part of the culture, of BG basketball then we find a better day to play at a better time. Nothing says "small time" program more than playing in from of a couple of families, a few friends and less than 100 frenzied fans. Best to have a closed scrimmage in the practice facility than expose your players, fans, recruits and media to an empty arena in my opinion.

Hopefully the day will come when the Stroh will be full or nearly full for every game and then it will be completely insane to schedule this way.

I'm gonna side with Transfer here. Globetrotter, I took your original post to mean...

'I was planning to attend a bunch of games. Can't do it now because the schedule sucks.'

NOT

'I was planning to attend a bunch of games. Can't attend the first two because tipoff is too early in the day.'

Also, I don't think Transfer's reply was snarky at all, but perhaps we have different interpretations of snark, and that's a road I'd rather not go down right now.

As for the schedule, I agree it isn't great. But, I would guess Coach Jans and his staff had to scramble to get games and couldn't be too picky, plus they probably didn't want to put together too tough of a schedule since this will be a rebuilding/transitional type of year (translation: I don't think we'll be very good for at least one more year). For the Wright State game, I imagine they (Wright State) said they would only play us on that day, and we (BGSU) needed some home games, so we agreed to it. I imagine as the Frack endowment money starts to kick in & our team improves, we will see future schedules improve as well.

If that's what you got out of it than you completely ignored the context within which the first post was written. It DIRECTLY quotes a comment about the first 2 games.

This schedule will be all that we can handle. Coach Jans has to be happy with it. We are not ready for much more that I see here.
