On Saturday the 14th, they are retiring Coles #10 jersey. They are holding a vote of the best Coles' moments (down to 2), the one I like the best is the presser where some idiot asked how the game got away against #4 Kentucky.

Funny Coach Coles moment
Re: Funny Coach Coles moment
My favorite Cole moment occurred in Anderson Area when DD was coaching. The falcons got off to a bad start that year. DD told his players they needed to turn the season around. To get the turnaround started, he had the players practice with their uniforms on backwards. The next game, DD came out with his jacket on backwards and the falcon end up winning the game. Miami was the next game. Before the game started both coaches came out of the locker room and met at half court. To DD surprise, Charlie had his jacket on backwards as well. Charlie was the best.

Big Rick (#2 seed Utah) thought he had seen the last of the MAC when Miami, CC and Wally World bounced them from the second round. A great MAC Moment for sure....
As for Kentucky - the talent level rises significantly in the third round.
I think C Coles played for Miami during the Nate Thurmond era.

In those Dakich years that we were good....the Matela/McLeod/Pardon years...it was great fun to watch Charlie get into it with the student section. You had the sense that he was having as much fun with the exchanges as the kids.
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
Re: Funny Coach Coles moment
Charlie was the best postgame interview in the MAC hands down. Dakich was a close second but Charlie was the best. He'd talk for so long because nobody wanted him to stop.
I still remember him coming over to press row at the MAC Tournament when Doug Penno hit that incredible shot against Akron to win the championship, asking "Did we win?" It took forever for the refs to watch the replay and determine if the shot counted.
I miss Charlie...

Nice to see a guy who played and then coached in the league be honored such as C Coles will be.
He certainly wasn't like so many of them who come and go masquerading as all about the MAC while watching for the train to take them down the road.

I always remember Charlie faking a heart attack, ala Fred Sanford, when interacting with the student section.

I recall how PO ed we were when we had to go on the road to Indianapolis to face a very good Butler team one of those years for the first round of the NIT.
