Why can't we win at home? BG lost 5 of last 7 home games

Post by BGSU33 »

On top of losing 5 of our last 7 home games to close out the year, it very much looks like "WE" are the visiting team shooting in the Stroh. I have heard the Stroh referred to as a "shooter's gym" as players have said it has good sight lines and backdrop, but it clearly is applying to our opponents and not us. Just like today when Canisius scored all over the place, teams just come into the Strog and just find their shooting touch night-in and-night out and we can't match them. Do we not ever practice on the arena floor and only on the practice court? Do our guys practice enough in the arena (I have no idea how much they do compared to the practice gym). But even if that was the case, we still played in the arena 16 times. But it doesn't matter who comes in, from Ferris State to our MAC foes, teams come in shooting on fire and we can't seem to come close to matching it. The way Ferris State came in and shot the hell outta the ball on us at home in hindsight was a precursor of things to come.

The answer lies in the overall talent level of the roster. When we played hard, we hung tough. Sometimes playing to 100% of the team's potential still wasn't good enough. I understand yesterday was a dud, but most of the losses were 1 or 2 plays from a win. Give it some time, the roster will bounce back.

Yes we did have a 1st team All-MAC guy and the MAC defensive player of the year, but no one else on the team was named to all-MAC honors. BG was one of 4 teams with 1 [or less] all-MAC players on the roster. Western, Kent, Buffalo, and Central each had 3 players with all-MAC honors. Toledo had 4 players on their roster.

If you are alluding to the coaching not being up to par, then I couldn't disagree more. Let's celebrate the 1st 20 win season since McLeod and Matela.
