Antonio Daniels

Post by BGSU1 »

Saw on twitter that Antonio Daniels is back in Bowling Green for homecoming. Talked to the team after practice and everything, class act and one of the all time falcon greats, pretty cool to see him still love BGSU.

Antonio and his family were just so gracious with their time this weekend. He was honored by the University. But he did indeed spend some very quality time with our men's basketball team, our alums and guests. Today was quite moving as he participated in a question and answer session with student-athletes from all our sports before flying back home.

In all my years at BG, I don't believe I have ever heard a better direct- very direct- message of hope, belief and life lessons than I heard from Antonio. He is a tremendous example of positive living for all of our students.

His wife and two young daughters are really the center of his life and it was very evident.

Guy could play too.

Go Falcons!

Antonio was an outstanding college basketball player, a good NBA player, and is an outstanding person. I had the privilege to work with Coach Larranaga and the team when Antonio was at BG as our years overlapped ('93-'97). I saw a young kid with raw talent come in to BG and win MAC Freshman of the Year and saw him leave BG four years later as a young man with NBA skills as the MAC Player on the Year. I watched him battle and deal with the devastation of losing his brother Chris, and it was like a switch was flipped internally afterward as he took his game - and maturity as a person - to an entirely different level. The one thing I felt most bad about for Antonio was that he never got a chance to showcase his ability and his team in the NCAA Tournament for everyone else to see. Watching him walk off the floor after BG came up short in the MAC Tournament - yet again - was heartbreak. The fact that we had Antonio Daniels and Anthony Stacey on the same team surrounded by other talent and with Coach L and still couldn't win the MAC Tournament is still hard for me to digest. But Antonio shared something personal with me before he left for the NBA that I have taken to heart and do every day of my life. He had a big impact on my life personally for things he did and shared with me on and off the court during our time together and is the reason I use "33" to this very day.

Prior to seeing him coach a single game I can already say I'm a huge fan of coach Huger for things like getting Antonio back to campus. I hope he can be as successful on the court as he is already looking to be off it.

I have met and spoke to Coach Huger a few times, and after one conversation I could clearly tell how genuine of a man he is. Impossible not to like him, and his love for Bowling Green is 2nd to none.
