While that may be true, I would rather watch the Jr. Falcons play than the women. Guess I am just a chauvanist pig, er, warthog.

If you put the women's game first I will arrive sometime in the 2nd half, only to get my seat for the men's game. I will cheer halfheartedly for the women, mostly discussing something other than basketball, or possibly the upcoming men's game.

If you put the women's game last I will be gone before tipoff.

I don't think I'm alone in these respects.
Well, in that case. Some support is better than NO support (600+). Even a little cheering from you would help and I'm sure others here (Flipper, Freak) would cheer regardless of their anticipation for the men's game. The fact that the women are in Falcon uniforms, should be enough for people to rout for them when they arrive at the game.

Not going to the girls' games is fine... but they are in first place right now and about 700 people go to those games... so i'd say that that a greater task than a mens team that gets the 2nd or 3rd seed. I know the game plays slower, and it isn't as exciting... but they are falcons too.

Women's games aren't that much slower. Hell, the only differences I see are jumping ability (dunking) and height between the guys and gals. I love both the programs equally so I guess it's hard for me to understand why certain people don't find fun in the ladies games. So yeah, maybe wart and hammb can enlighten me with why you dislike women's games. Sure I'll probably disagree with your comments but I just don't really get it.

Don't get me wrong, I am happy to see the women's team doing well and I will always root for all Falcon teams to be victorious. But as far as investing time into to supporting the team with my attendance, it is hard to explain. Suffice it to say that I have three kids that take up plenty of my time and are higher priority then attending a womens game. That, and the chauvanist pig thing I mentioned earlier.

BleedOrange, I hear you. Thanks to everyone for their input and suggestions. Being that I am not the AD, I don't have so much pull. However, I do have enough to get these suggestions in front of both the coaching staff and marketing department and I will certainly make them be heard.

Quite honestly I find the women's games boring. I get so frustrated watching them try to pull down rebounds and none of them are within a foot of the rim when they jump. I like dunks, and acrobatic plays in the air. I'm more a fan of the athleticism of basketball than I am the science of it. I understand the philosophies, but in basketball (more than football) I prefer watching the great athletes to dissecting the X's & O's. I like to see guys like Mawel or Germain fly through the air to try and put back a miss. You just don't see those things at a women's game.

I love to see our women's team(s) doing well, don't get me wrong, I just don't like watching them do it.

On top of all that and the chauvanist pig thing too, because you can bet your butt if they were playing topless I'd be there :)

we shoulda had at least one of those games, too... the Creighton one for sure, I think. We had a big lead in the second half and went cold...

Yup. . one thing I did get from the Florida game was the NCAA sticker that was on the center of the court- took that baby home, put it on some posterboard and it was on my wall through high school!

Ugh... "high school"!??!! *laugh*

that was possibly the coolest thing about the whole game atmosphere, seeing the NCAA logos plastered around, made it feel pretty big time.

I loved women/men doubleheaders. I drive 150 miles round trip to see the team play. I see nearly all the men's games and many women's games. I realize I am an exception both in distance and willingness to show and in supporting both programs at a fairly strong level.

I STILL love doubleheaders. It is great to see both play. I am no expert, but I would guess if you asked Coach Miller he would say he would rather play in front of 1800 Falcon fans than 600 Falcon fans. Just my guess. If pairing them up accomplishes this, I would bet that even guys like hammb would eventually watch and cheer like crazy for our women. Whether 1000 come for the second half only or something, who cares-at this point at least? Get in there.

Why will even hammb start cheering? Because our women are very, very good and getting better. After the first 30 teams, we can play with anybody nationally and it is fun to have a chance to win the title every single year. Eventually, no matter what gender is wearing the uniform, our fans will simply like kicking other team's rear ends and right on out of our building.

Now, our men are really working hard and I believe our coaches are coaching their butts off. Our coaches and players are giving their absolute all. We need people there. Townspeople, students everybody. Great win tonight when things really weren't breaking for us. Students did impact the game late. I salute our seniors- these guys are great representatives of Bowling Green and Falcon basketball.

Here's a look at my unscientific 2004-5 schedule analysis. Not faulting hard working under the gun schedule makers looking at a zillion factors, but:

1. Bowling Green did not play a home game in front of their full student population until December 8. This was the team's fifth game of the season- and was against the Bluffton Beavers. Not a real big draw.

2. Bowling Green did not play another game in front of their full student population until January 15. This was the team's 13th game of the season versus WMU. This last sentence to me is absolutely amazing. If you want your 3800 freshmen to get involved with basketball, this makes the job about 100 times tougher. Our first home game that most students could see with a D 1 school was January 15. I won't research it, but there might not be another school in the country in that situation.

3. Of the games played in front of a full student population by season's end, we will have played two Sunday games (one a noon start), two Wednesday games, a Thursday game, a Monday game and three Saturday games. The Saturday games are started at three different times.

4. We play zero Saturday night games. To me, I'm a big fan of Saturday night games like we used to play. But I am likely in a minority with that comment.

I know we need to make room for TV, the MAC sets some/all? MAC
schedules etc etc. I respect that. We HAVE to play some home games during breaks; we'll never get our home games in. I am not counting one Sunday game and one Saturday game because kids are returning and leaving for breaks respectively on those two games. So to me, no way are those full student population games.

I realize somebody could say that certain schools have super student turnouts even when school is not in session. No MAC school will make that statement however.

The above does make it tough to establish momentum with the student population.

Why do I keep talking student crowd? Because student crowds drive the atmosphere and winnability of the games. Students are important in so many ways.

Now why we can't get 2000 or 2500 adults, young kids, faculty, staff , alums and boosters game in game out I am not sure. I read a lot about parking and I respect the comments. But when I attend big events elsewhere, parking and walking a 1/4 mile is not uncommon. I agree, we need to do a better job, shuttles etc.

I'll be there and I know others will continue to support these good teams. Wasn't that a super display of scholar-athletes honored at halftime today? I just loved that. Info like that is what makes alums proud and hopefully gets them in. Tell the story, bring a friend, go Falcons!

someone on here said earlier how we have the smallest arena in the MAC and one of the cheapest tickets. Well call me crazy but I think AA needs to be gutted and re-done. Keep the same capacity but new seats might help draw some more people. Those seats blow and are older than crap. I have seen nicer middle school gyms. Maybe a new floor as well. Yes money is an issue but why not. What does BG basketball have to lose? New facilities always attract more fans no matter the sport.

The floor must stay and never leave...even when the convocation center is built decades away, I want the floor to be moved to there!
