I can see lots of excitement for this game.
Less than 6 minutes remain and BG holds a 52-47 lead. UDM has won only 1 game this year.
Wiggins and Lillard have combined for only 4 points for the entire game.

Re: BG vs UDM
Lillard didn't play at all in the second half and Ali got one short shift in the second.
Frye and Caldwell were the reason we won this game. They both played 17+ mins in the second half and they brought it. Attacked the defense, provided great energy, and played good defense as well.
Worrell, Denny, and alcegaire played well also.
Wiggins couldn't get anywhere against their tank down low but he was able to play competebt defense without racking up fouls. Worrell did as well.
But the shooting, passing, and handles of the two frosh was fun as hell to watch.

Re: BG vs UDM
If the two freshman can play consistently and we can get Lillard back to how he was playing in the MAC Tournament last year we can compete in the MAC. Wiggins, Worrell and Alcegaire will have their games.

Great game to watch. The one good thing about BGs lack of extreme hoops following is that I can forget games are on and just watch of ESPN replay like they are live and then come in here to chat.
You have all said it. We have probably seen a changing of the guard at the guard spots.
Ali is just adequate and you can see the potential that Caldwell has to be very good. He is lightning quick and active on both sides. Doesn't need to score to have a big impact but can score all the same. He is a rock to build off of at PG and will be great in a rotation with Nelly next year. I bet Ali starts next Saturday at San Jose but doesn't start again here. He will be a solid backup but it's time to move on to Caldwell.
Similarly Frye needs to take over for Lillard. I still expect big things from Lillard but he has obviously regressed. Frye on the other hand has loads of energy. He is very smart on the floor. We will have a great 1-2 punch with him and Caldwell in the backcourt. Essentially 2 PGs.

Was at the game, it was good to get a W especially being down early....we've got some potential, we're going to struggle against teams that can defend. If we score we can compete with the bottom and middle of the pack teams. We'll really struggle against the likes of Akron, EMU, Kent and OU...unfortunately it looks like the East is a little stronger this year. Conference wins may be tough to come by.
Re: BG vs UDM
I'm not yet ready to say that Frye should take over for Lillard, as I don't think Lillard is a guard anyhow. He should be playing the 3 spot, and if he cannot find a way to guard and rebound against 3s, THEN, I"ll concede he needs to spend more time on the bench.
At this point I think Frye & Denny should be taking the bulk of those minutes. Frye, in his limited action, has already shown a greater ability to score in multiple ways than Lillard ever has. I love LIllard when he attacks the basket with the ball, because he's one of the better finishers around the rim we've had here in awhile. But he shouldn't be taking jump shots that often...he's just an awkward looking shooter at this point. Unfortunately that includes at the free throw line. I had high hopes he'd carry his MAC tourney success over towards this year, but he looks more tentative like the guy he was at the beginning of last year.
Frye is a good athlete who has a good jump shot. He might end up being the best scoring guard we've had since Samarco.
Caldwell just LOOKS talented. His shooting has been off, and he's taken some BAD shots, but at the same time, he LOOKS fluid while he shoots. I know I'm no scout, but he actually looks like he knows what he's doing when he shoots, even though they're not going in at the rate we need them to for the future. (Conversely Alcegaire is shooting well and looks like a mechanical trainwreck) I don't know that he's ready to take the bulk of Ali's minutes, but I'd definitely like to see a more 50/50 split with the hotter hand on any given evening getting more minutes. I'd still make him earn it, but there's no doubt his ceiling is ahead of where Ali is currently at.
