Optimism for 2017-2018

Post by mbenecke »

Disclaimer: Sorry for the long write-up, I just really feel strongly about this program and this university in general.

I feel very optimistic about our basketball program moving forward.

Our roster for next year:

Returning players
6-10 F Demajeo Wiggins - Junior
5-10 G Rodrick Caldwell - Sophomore
6-2 G Dylan Frye - Sophomore
6-4 G Justin Turner - RS Freshman
6-5 G Antwon Lillard - Junior
6-7 F Jeffrey Uju - RS Junior
6-4 G Matt Fox - Senior

Incoming Players
6-9 F Derek Koch - Freshman
6-10 F Joniya Gadson - Freshman
6-8 F Matiss Kulackovskis - Freshman
6-5 G Daequon Plowden - Freshman
6-0 G Nelly Cummings - Freshman

We will be a very young team next year, with only one senior on the roster.
We return a nice core of Frye, Wiggins, Lillard, and Caldwell.
We get Uju and Turner back, both of whom missed last season due to injury.
We added a Latvian stud in Kulackovskis, a freak athlete big man in Gadson, a high flying dunker in Plowden, a skilled PG in Cummings, and Ohio's all-time high school rebounder in Koch.

I think that this will be Frye and Wiggins' team next year. I think they will both put in a lot of work in the offseason to really improve their games and become leaders.

I think our projected starting lineup next year will look something like

PG - Caldwell
SG - Frye
SF - Lillard
PF - Uju
C - Wiggins

And our bench will go a few deep, with Koch (who could potentially start in place of Uju given his ability to clean up the glass), Turner, Fox, with the opportunity for other young guys to step in.

I truly think that Coach Huger has this program heading in the right direction. I urge you fans to come out support like you did for the Toledo and Akron games last year. We feel as though the atmosphere had a huge effect on the outcome of the game, and we (the students) would love for that to continue. My plan is to completely revitalize the student section this year and hopefully make it loud to the point that it can help our boys win some close games.

Go Falcons! Have faith in the future! Roll along.

Assuming a male gender orientation is highly patriarchal and somewhat heteronormative..... :-)

Guy is unisex now. It's been reclaimed.

Seriously? I'm going to have to consult the LGBTQ stylebook...otherwise known as Tumblr...to verify. If true...sucks to be anyone who wants to produce a revival of the Burrows/Swerling musical "Guys and Dolls" ("Peeps and Peeps?"). Also sucks to be Guy LaFleur...who I guess has been neutered.

A moment of silence for Guy's nards.....

I would add Guy Drut, but he's French so basically already neutered.

Or Guy Lombardo...he's dead though. Is being neutered worse than being dead?
