I had been thinking that Uju might leave after this year for more playing time, especially if he graduates, however if he has bounced around to 3 schools in 4 years I am not sure you can knock out everything needed to apply to Med school whilst playing hoops. (whilst lol) His major is listed as Pre-med, which isn't a major most places. Technically for many Med schools you just have to knock out the prereqs and do well and don't even really need a degree (which I agree sounded crazy when I heard about it) to be accepted into the MD program.
I am all for as many bigs as possible on the roster and I am in no way trying to say I want him gone but he is averaging 8.3 mins and 1.2 points on a team that is very young. Wouldn't surprise me if we have 2 scholarships to offer in the spring.
I keep forgetting how young we are and how much youth we are playing. 4 Freshman play in the rotation. With that said the least impressive to see minutes has got to be Cummings. I am certainly not foreclosed on his ability to become a player but he doesn't do much when he is out there and seems like he is out of shape. There are not enough minutes and shots for everyone to be a star but I had high hopes after he filled up the scoring box in HS. I think Frye and Turner have led to unreasonable expectations for Freshman.
1 thing is clear. This new rotation with Caldwell on the bench is better. Not that he shouldn't see minutes but the length difference between Lillard and Caldwell causes lots of issues.

Another thing that I need to recognize in terms of criticism of coaches, they could very well be drawing up plays and the players are just doing other things.

Yes, I'm quite happy that Lillard has apparently gotten himself into a place that he can be trusted to start again. The current starting 5, with Frye at the PG, is light year's better defensively than what we were going with most of the year. Lillard & Turner are by far and away our 2 best perimeter defenders and it's huge to be able to have them on the court together more frequently. And Caldwell seems to have transitioned fairly well to being the 6th man; he's shooting better the past 3 games and scoring more efficiently than he has on the year. Of course the bulk numbers (and minutes) are down.Globetrotter wrote:I had been thinking that Uju might leave after this year for more playing time, especially if he graduates, however if he has bounced around to 3 schools in 4 years I am not sure you can knock out everything needed to apply to Med school whilst playing hoops. Cummings has struggled, especially in MAC play, but I think the skillset is there for him to be a good scoring option off the bench. He's got the ability to shoot off the dribble, which is nice. Unfortunately his size is a liability on defense. I don't think he'll ever be a star but should be a good role player.
I really hope Uju doesn't transfer out. He doesn't play a lot of minutes, and doesn't put up a ton of production when he does, but he's a good size body/athlete. He's a perfect guy to have on your bench to bring in when the others are in foul trouble or struggling.

I am going to post this elsewhere but if the next year and beyond is when we start competing Huger might have done something brilliant with keeping scholarships open to give to walk ons. We don't necessarily need to go 15 deep or anything but having 13 schollies and 2-3 walk ons is a good thing. If those preferred walk ons are fringe roster guys or guys who had D1 tragectory and just hit injuries thats even better (Ross Ryan, Julian Malone, Thomas Hickman) If a preferred walk on has more than one place where they can preferably walk on and he can point to a history of giving walk ons scholarships that might entice someone to come. I have mentioned 3 guys in the recruiting thread that I would love to get in this scenario.
