I get the fact that Coach Huger is trying to get a game in players hometowns which is why we are paying to rent facilities in Miami AND pay Jacksonville to play us. But does anyone know why Coach Huger's mentor and former BG Head Coach Jim Larranaga wouldn't schedule us to play in Miami which would've provided revenue instead of costing our program an estimated $50,000 and probably a lot more than that.
Does he still have such distaste for Bowling Green? If you claim he was afraid to play us, please provide facts and not conjecture.

If I remember correctly Huger will try to visit out of state player's home areas for a game. I'm not sure why we can't play Miami (or even FIU), but I'm confident it's not fear. It could be the schedules not working out with the tournaments both teams are playing in this year, but I'm just speculating. Can someone tell me why Larranaga left? I wasn't around during that time and it always puzzled me why he left the success he had with BG for George Mason.

Among other things, we was terrible on the road and whined about not knowing why we lost on the road all the time and it must be the player's fault.
He failed multiple times to get players to significantly improve - including Huger oddly enough. HE even took guys who came in highly thought of and essentially destroyed them. Derek Kizer was only allowed to play defense for us. He could handle the ball and shoot and drive when he played with those same guys on other teams. But for us, defense only please and thank you. 6-9 Ed Colbert showed flashes with up and under moves and such, but never really got any better on the offensive end throughout his 4 years. And was a sub par rebounder for his size and roll. Joe Moore was 6-3 and led that team in rebounding (Joe had amazing energy and did in fact improve some on the offensive end and was a demon defender). Where we never had any significant issue with people transferring out before him, Laranaga lost good players over and over again after a single season.
He did have one very valid complaint - it was pretty hard to get players to come to BGSU to play at Anderson Arena the last decade or two with all the other MAC schools having newer, MUCH nicer and bigger arenas. He wanted the athletics department to pony up for better digs to make it easier to recruit better players. And they never did.
He wasn't wrong about that part.
I know his win % was good by post-Harold-Anderson standards, but he was not a pleasant experience as the coach of your team.

The Blade reporter has mentioned that Huger tried to get FIU and Miami on board for a game and neither would accept. I get it for Miami. Why take a risk losing to a MAC team on their home floor when they are consistently on the bubble. I have a little more trouble figuring out why FIU wouldn't take a game.ZuluWarrior wrote:I get the fact that Coach Huger is trying to get a game in players hometowns which is why we are paying to rent facilities in Miami AND pay Jacksonville to play us. Regardless, Huger makes it a known goal/promise to play a game in or near the hometown of each player he recruits, and Frye is a senior, so this was his last year to get a game down in Miami, and BG did whatever they could to make it work. I hope Frye's whole community shows up so there is a decent amount of support.

I am going to assume that FIU would rather have the check they'll get Wednesday night at N.C. State than hosting BG two nights before.drumstix2388 wrote:The Blade reporter has mentioned that Huger tried to get FIU and Miami on board for a game and neither would accept. I get it for Miami.
