The bottom line: Fans of just 13 Division I basketball programs -- or just 4 percent of Division I -- have suffered a longer NCAA tournament drought than we have here at Bowling Green.
(Columbia has suffered equally. The Lions' last NCAA tournament appearance was also in 1968).
The 13 programs that have suffered longer droughts than Bowling Green are listed below along with their length of tenure in Division I and their last NCAA tournament appearance (if any).
American 1967-present
Tennessee Tech 1956-present (last tournament appearance: 1963)
Yale 1948-present (last tournament appearance: 1962)
Maine 1962-present

Corrections are welcome. And, TJ1996, if you see the makings of something that would fit onto bgsusports.com, have at it. Just give me a bit of credit.

New Hampshire 1962-present
Centenary (La.) 1960-present
Dartmouth 1948-present (last tournament appearance: 1959)
Harvard 1948-present (last tournament appearance: 1946)
Army 1948-present
Citadel 1948-present
Northwestern 1948-present
St. Francis (N.Y.) 1948-present
William & Mary 1948-present
Corrections are welcome. And, TJ1996, if you see the makings of something that would fit onto bgsusports.com, have at it. Just give me a bit of credit.

TJ1996? Who's that?
I had actually looked up something similar to that earlier in the year, but definitely not to that extent. And while I'm trying to keep BGSUsports.com somewhat positive and free of self-pity, that is some hellified research, maybe I can find a spot for it.

then feast your mind on the BG ladies win!!!!
Please lets not drown in dispair over how long the BG men have gone without a NCAA Tourney bid, I know its been a very long time.
But the BGSU ladies just won the Mac Tourney and they are goin' dancing!! Lets dwell on that shall we? I'm not sure I into talking about BG mens b-ball woes , lets just talk about our upcoming recruits or something.
GO LADY FALCONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ON TO THE DANCE!!!!!!!!!!
GO LADY FALCONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ON TO THE DANCE!!!!!!!!!!
Mid-2000's Anderson Animal
First off, it's great for the women's team getting to go to the NCAA Tournament. I also saw them make a couple NCAA Tournament appearances while I was in school between 1993-97. But until the men make the NCAA Tournament, 1968 will forever haunt those of us who it matters to. The phrase "not since 1968" is like a bad dream to me everytime I think of hear it. But until we go dancing (if ever - the men that is), I will continue to believe we just might be cursed!
GO BG!!!
Re: Futility
My God, Schad. No offense, but you have a little bit too much time on your hands.Schadenfreude wrote:Since Bowling Green last made the NCAA tournament in 1968, 264 current members of Division I have made the tournament.
These are the programs along with the year of their last NCAA appearance and the length of time that program has spent in Division I.

New Hampshire 1962-present
Centenary (La.) 1960-present
Dartmouth 1948-present (last tournament appearance: 1959)
Harvard 1948-present (last tournament appearance: 1946)
Army 1948-present
Citadel 1948-present
Northwestern 1948-present
St. Francis (N.Y.) 1948-present
William & Mary 1948-present
Corrections are welcome. And, TJ1996, if you see the makings of something that would fit onto bgsusports.com, have at it. Just give me a bit of credit.

Right now we just need to play our game, our way. Lets start by consistently getting NIT berths and going far. If we are ment to rule the NIT then so be it. It's post season any way you look at it. Lets not make it a special thing but an expected thing. Eventually NIT will become NCAA and the team will be ready and know what to expect in the post season.

What's so frustrating about this is how flukey it is. Without question, Bowling Green has been the best program of the bunch over the last 37 years.

Good catches. I've made a note of those corrections. I won't bother to repost, as someone will accuse me of having too much time on my hands (that list wasn't as hard to compile as it looked).Syc Brown wrote:In your list of 50 teams not around before 1968 to never make it.
Nevada did last year
Ark Little Rock beat Notre Dame in 86 or 87.
IUPIU made it two years ago.
Southern Miss has a bunch of times in the early 90's
Oakland clinced last week. Buffalo is about to
One thing, though: I think Buffalo is on the wrong side of the bubble. We'll find out in a few hours.
