They have academic advisors who not only help them schedule classes and stay on track, but they meet weekly with players to make sure they are completing assignments. They also have tutors for any class they need. They still have to do the work, but they have extremely valuable resources to use.

Then you need to drop that dime to the NCAA

Exactly. They just officially have 20. The other 15 are “optional”, or non-team exercises, or something that keeps it off the books.Globetrotter wrote: ↑Wed Dec 21, 2022 4:50 pmI work with athletes at a major University its much closer to 35 hours.Flipper wrote: ↑Wed Dec 21, 2022 3:34 pmNCAA has the 20 hour rule...it's more like a part time jobGlobetrotter wrote: ↑Wed Dec 21, 2022 11:08 amThey also have full time jobs playing basketball.TommyG wrote: ↑Wed Dec 21, 2022 9:30 am Not being disparaging anyone, but Football and Basketball players would have to be either unbelievably lazy or have some type of learning disability to go ineligible. Feel free. But it won't make any difference. It's almost certainly a long line of "voluntary" things - things that anybody who does them gets playing time, and those who don't, don't.
So, EVERYBODY does the "voluntary" stuff.
And then, for anybody truly dedicated to their craft as an athlete, they probably ARE doing actual voluntary stuff on top of the specific 20 hours with the team.

Plus many of them are not very good students as is. Its not their strength. Football is. I do agree that they should be able to at least stay eligible with the support given.
