At EMU 1/3

Post by Matty B »

MAC opener Tuesday vs EMU. Ohio Dominican surely got our guys ready to go up against Emoni Bates.

Usually a fun and easy 1 hour road trip up to see the team in Ypsilanti. However, BG ticket office had NO tickets for BG fans for this game. Anyone wanting to go will have to purchase tickets at the door at EMU ](*,)

What are we doing here??? Even when we try to give this school money, they can't figure out how to take it!

I have no idea how we're going to cover bates and we've struggled to slow down big scorers before. I guess it will be Towns and Turner (if he's back) covering him? My concern is without Turner that towns doesn't play enough to be the guy defending him and our other bigs are not athletic enough

Fell off the wagon big time on this team as is tradition over the past few years during this time of year. That end of OOC schedule lull before conference play is brutal. Shocker, I know, but I refuse to invest my time into the Fairmont's and Ohio Dominican's of the world.

I will however embrace what is more than likely the last of my optimism for this season. Anything can happen, insert whatever cliche' you want about this essentially being the start of a new season.

Bates gets a 30 piece but Ayers takes over late and we squeak one out 78-75 tonight.

If there's one good thing about playing two completely stinker games to grease the wheels before conference play, it's that Matheny did seem to find a little something behind the arc. Now, how much of that is playing against guys' that aren't D1 material, who knows. But I don't think this team wins 4 MAC games if Matheny isn't scoring/can't stay healthy.

Thanks to the powers that be in Ohio we can now bet on sports. I think there is a good deal of money to be made betting against this BG team.

I leaned into that with a wager on EMU and Emoni Bates to take this one. Figure if I lose my bet I'll be happy we won the game. EMU hasn't been real great, but I think this BG team is among the worst I've ever seen here.

You on the moneyline or spread? I assume you picked EMU straight up, but didn’t know if you took them at -2.5 as well.

I actually took emu -2.5 figured If we were gonna lose we'll not stay close.

So with my luck (and I'm a horrid sports better) we'll lose, but beat the spread.

Turner was back against ODU.

Curtis came off th bench. Mills started. it was a WIERD rotation.

Thus far my inability to bet sports is working as expected. Playing a good half

We are legit playing better ball than they are. Not every instant, but much more often than not.

Yes, one of the first times all year where we have moved the ball better and gotten better looks at the basket than our opponents.

Nice change of pace.

Eastern is bad. Would think double Bates/ dare someone else to make a shot has been a consistent defensive game plan for opposing coaches. Also gifted a handful of cherry picked layups where they just don’t run back on defense.

But man! Can’t ask for a better half. Moving the ball/ running the floor. All kinds of open looks from 3 and multiple guys have hit. Agee great on both ends as always.

Would love to blow the doors off these guys’. We need it.

Doing just that right now.

EMU looks absolutely awful. Admittedly haven't watched them except for the game against UM very early. Holy hell they look bad. Lazy defense has gifted us at least a dozen transition points. And seems like everybody tries to take the same iso shots that Bates does.

I echo what everyone else said. EMU bad but that was a really good game for us. 2-14 for Bates
