Re: Offseason 2024
He can shoot the 3, rebounds very well for 6’2” and looks like a good defender.
Re: Offseason 2024
On paper this looks like a much better roster than last year.
Re: Offseason 2024
Agreed the team is shaping up nicely. We have 2 20 point scorers, a guy who can shoot threes and a proven scorer in the Mac, a returning point guard, a guy who can defend all 5 positions, and plenty of depth inside.
Re: Offseason 2024
He averaged 13 points and shot 6-10 from 3pt across the 3 games we played them this year. He was their leading scorer in the MAC quarterfinal game against us.guest44 wrote: ↑Wed May 15, 2024 6:18 pm New commit is Derrick Butler from Central Michigan.

LONG LIVE THE MONGOOSE!!
Re: Offseason 2024
Our starting lineup could feature 4 power-five transfers and a JuCo All-American..

Green

Johnson
Towns
Main subs: Exacte, Thomas, Humphrey, Felt.
Depth subs: YoYo, Squire, Pardon.
Blowout sub: Spurgin

Re: Offseason 2024
I’m looking at it like this:
1. Thomas Campbell
2. Green Butler Pardon
3. Exacte Humphrey
4. Khayat Johnson Squire Spurgin
5. Towns Felt
But either way this is the most talent we’ve had together for a long time. My expectations are extremely high. We have bulk scorers, shooters, depth, athleticism and size. Anyone in that second group I have up there could start and contribute as well as having a 7 footer who can shoot with Squire. You just hope you can keep him and Pardon long term and develop them.

Re: Offseason 2024
I realize that with the portal, this is (mostly) meaningless, but it appears that most of the guys Simon has brought in have more than 1 year of eligibility left. In theory, you could be building something special for at least two seasons.

In theory, but I think we all know and accept that if Simon wins 25 games this year, he's gone. But hey, if he makes it to the Big Dance, he could go to TSUN for all I care. I just want to get to the tourney again.Falconwriter wrote: ↑Thu May 16, 2024 11:13 am I realize that with the portal, this is (mostly) meaningless, but it appears that most of the guys Simon has brought in have more than 1 year of eligibility left. Re: Offseason 2024
I assume the two guys they got to return who started last year will start. Thomas started 26 games and Humphrey 13. Towns only started 4 but he is probably our best traditional big. Atleast to start the year.
1 Thomas
2
3 Humphrey
4
5 Towns

Exacte looks powerful and athletic but he didn't make an impact his Freshman year and didn't play last year I don't think he starts although he will probably combine to play starting level minutes at the 3 and 4.
Yo-yo looks great in video but he didn't do much at Michigan. Another rotational guy at the 3 and 4.
Marcus Johnson looks polished and thick enough to play the 4. His game is too similar to Squire I would imagine but will pair well with Towns. I bet he starts at the 4.
Green has upside but barely played for ASU I would bet he starts as a backup
Campbell seems like a Hill Clone....he will fit in well next to Thomas as the 5th starts
Butler played 28 mins a game last year and should be in the mix to start as well.
I'd bet something like
1 Thomas-Green
2 Campbell-Butler
3 Humphrey-Exacte
4 Johnson-Yo-Yo
5 Towns
They would be light with Yo-yo and Johnson sometimes playing the 5.
Squire-Pardon-Felt-Spurgin all on the bench with Squire and Felt playing as much 5 as needed

Re: Offseason 2024
Poking around Utah message boards.. they were REALLY excited for Exacte last year. He didnt play a ton as a freshman but worked his way into the starting lineup by the end of the year. When Utah got off to a slow start last year, the Utah fans blamed it on Exacte being hurt. He was starting to get NBA buzz as well.Globetrotter wrote: ↑Thu May 16, 2024 4:15 pm I assume the two guys they got to return who started last year will start. That said, If he's anything close to what he was prior to the injury, I'd be shocked if he isn't locked in as a starter at BG.

Re: Offseason 2024
Humphrey took shots, but did not hit them all that well. He's a 6'4" 2 guard who can give you some minutes at the 3 if needed. He doesn't rebound well over all, and was under 40% from the field and like .311 from 3 iirc. I will take that fro ma bench player, but want an upgrade as a starter.Matty B wrote: ↑Fri May 17, 2024 4:00 pmPoking around Utah message boards.. they were REALLY excited for Exacte last year. Re: Offseason 2024
I think Humphrey could see improved numbers and percentages without Hill. Hill is a great player but not a great distributor. I could see both Humphrey and Thomas coming off the bench this season with improved percentages. I'm really intrigued to see what a healthy Towns can be with Simon developing his offensive game. Roster is set to play much faster and score much more efficiently. I'm thinking preseason Top 3 in the MAC with a legit chance to win it. We have the coach and potential, now is the time to get the support behind it.
Re: Offseason 2024
Do we still need a couple more players? What do you think the needs are? I'd say true point guard and maybe a strong rebounder/blocker or another wing 6-5 to 6-7 shooter.
