Cavaliers fire Silas...

Post by Falconfreak90 »

Hmmm....I know they want Flip Saunders but a certain guy named Phil Jackson is not coaching at this time.

I like Silas....I'm surprised this happened so quickly.

Thoughts? Anyone care?

Writing was on the wall. There is much turmoil in the locker room.

If you watch the Cavs they've fallen into making LeBron do it all. He tries to be the most unselfish superstar in the league, but when nobody else on his team can finish its got to be frustrating. If you've been watching lately its obvious that LeBron has lost some faith in his teammates. He still makes a few great passes a game, but he is shooting much more than he was (hence 56 points).

There were also articles in the ABJ recently that some of the players have turned on LeBron saying he's becoming too selfish. Personally, watching the games, he's not selfish enough with that supporting cast. McInnis is the worst defensive PG in the league. He scores, but he shoots < 40% on the season, that ain't good. Newble is awful. Snow is awful. Gooden can finish around the rim & Z is a solid player. The backcourt is just horrendous and that has been the problem in this slide. Unfortunately indications are that Silas has allowed the known headcase McInnis to proliferate an attitude.

Paxson sucks, horrible GM. They got a new owner. I think the new owner wants his guys at both coach & GM. I think the recent slide & the newfound dissention in the locker room contributed to saying let's just can Silas now. I'm not sure how the team will react, but I could see it coming. Heck those that think BGs offense looks bad at times, check out the Cavs. 70% of the possessions are, "Here 'bron. Take this round brown ball and do something cool" Usually he can make something on his own, but his teammates are doing nothing any more...if they would cut, he'd find them.

Great points, Hammb. McGinnis needs to GO, NOW. Lebron is being asked to do everything and he is THEE man in Cleveland.

Not too upset to see Silas getted canned. It will be interesting to see who takes over.

Biggest problem I have seen lately is that no one off the bench can score all of a sudden. Pavlovic used to be able to shoot the ball. Varrajao scored off of offensive rebounds. Tractor was good for 8-9 a night. Now all these guys look like Junoir Falcons at the offensive end. LeBron has no choice but to try and score because noone else can right now.

I think you also have to take into account his off the court stuff (the see you next Tuesday remark, clash with E. Snow, the Chinese comment, etc.).
LBJ is the face of the franchise, but they also need a leader that won't embarass them any more than they will on their own with their play on the court...

Paxson should be the next to go. Other than James, can you think of one good draft pick?

Every pick he made before Lebron was great because it lead to the Cavs being horrific enough to be able to draft James.

Boozer is about the only pick I can think of that was ever any good by Paxson.

I do not give him credit for the James pick, because a drunken, one-eyed, 10 year old could've made that pick.

Think about the other lottery picks the Cavs have had...Diop, Wagner, LANGDON!? UGH. It's a who's who of lottery busts really.

I forgot Wagner was even on the team. Did he dress at all this year?

This is interesting to hear, most people I've talked or heard from today have told me that Silas shouldn't have left.

Silas did what he was hired to do: help mold Lebron into a NBA star.

Luckily he got hurt before we had to watch him play too much. The guy is has the smallest amount of "Basketball IQ" I've ever seen. Stupid passes, stupid shots, looks lost at times, can't box out.

That kid has all the talent in the world, but he doesn't know when to shoot and when to pass, and when to move w/o the ball. He looks as though he's never been coached in his life. On top of that he's battled injuries for awhile too :(

Silas was not the coach to groom this team, and its unfortunate. He set us back because he refuses to play young players. They drafted a good shooter this year in Luke Jackson only to play Lucious Harris instead? Jackson has surgery now, but it could've been put off...he took the surgery immediately because he wasn't playing anyways. The younger players rarely get to play under Silas (LeBron, excepted). He also works his starters way too many minutes, that likely contributes to this recent downturn...

I have nothing against Paul Silas, but watching this team recently it was obvious that they have been in disarray. Either the coach lost respect or there is a locker room issue among the players. Either way it was time for the coach to be gone. Given Paul's past he was NEVER the right selection for a team that is trying to groom young talent into a contender.
