vs. Akron (1/9)
vs. Akron (1/9)
On Friday, January 9th, our Falcons (11-5, 2-2 MAC) will return to the Stroh for a nationally televised contest against the Akron Zips (11-4, 2-1 MAC). The game will begin at 8:00 and will air on CBS Sports Network.
Another really tough game against the top of the conference to open MAC play. Schedule should get a bit lighter after this, but it’s another chance to see how we stack up against the elites in the MAC. We played really well against Kent State, so I’m encouraged by that effort. Very curious to see how we respond after that game - hoping we’re motivated and the extra juice of being on TV and being at home propel us to a win.
Go Falcons!

I'm excited to be at this game. Our local high school will be playing at the game since the students aren't back yet.

Akron has tormented us since about 2005. I think we are 5-37 in our last 42? For the love of Andy Anderson, just beat them. As always, they will be an excellent team.

I forgot to mention in the preview, this is technically the Bill Frack game. I know that's going to ruffle some feathers.
I wish this game was happening with students on campus. They're still on break for another week, so it'll be a weaker crowd than it should be. With how good both teams are, and it being on national TV, you'd love to see a full Stroh for this one. I would've thought they'd think about lowering ticket prices with students off campus to get more people in the door so it looks better on TV. But alas.

Re: vs. Akron (1/9)
Our defense does not work against good teams. We try to blitz and double everything...good teams just wait for the double and make the first pass for easy looks.
We go down 24-4 on that then switch to a zone that was effective for long stretches but also let Akron hit about 6-8 completely uncontested 3s.
We're an improved team but have a long way to go to start truly competing in this league

The MAC learned tonight that Miami and Akron are way ahead of the rest of league.
