All season I've been begging him to play enough defense that we can keep him on the floor.
He can flat score

Re: vs. Akron (1/9)
Lack of consistency in outside shooting kills this team.
The longer the walk, the farther you crawl.
Re: vs. Akron (1/9)
Amazing that BG found a way to make this a competitive game.
If they can ditch the slow starts in big games, they might start to win these things.

Re: vs. Akron (1/9)
Can't watch. Been half ignoring it all 2nd half. Because every time I pay attention, we suck.
SO, sorry I tuned in at all guys - my bad.
That said, there were so few free throws in this game. Suddenly Akron is up 10 again and took a bunch of freebies. Did the refs suddenly start calling a game of basketball instead of letting them play hockey like they had all game? or did we run out of gas and start reaching?

Re: vs. Akron (1/9)
Could've been a different story if BG didn't dig themselves a first half hole to China.

Re: vs. Akron (1/9)
We're frustratingly close to where we want to be. Even with that trash start we had a chance then didn't make the plays down the stretch again
Re: vs. Akron (1/9)
We had some frustration. Towns allowed an offensive rebound then slapped down, we had a bad handoff that led to a foul, and a couple other that weren't in a traditional defense possession. Honestly I had no complaints thereDiemilkweed wrote: ↑Fri Jan 09, 2026 9:57 pm Can't watch. Been half ignoring it all 2nd half. Because every time I pay attention, we suck.

Miami should be in the top 25 come Monday (currently #30). Akron could very well join them by the end of the month. Akron's 3 non-conference losses were to #1 Purdue (covered the spread), 12-2 Yale, and 14-3 Murray St, all likely NCAA tournament teams, and all at road or neutral sites.
A shame BGs schedule started this way, as a 2-3 start to MAC play, regardless of opponents, simply won't generate much excitement in the community until (still calling it) we're 8-4 when we host Toledo on Valentines day.
This is a really good team, but Ruffin and Thomas gotta get healthy. Ruffin looked like he was just getting over an illness. Thomas gave it a go for 2 minutes in the first half but came out in street clothes after halftime. Could have really used his perimeter defense today.
At the end of the day, we were essentially down 1
1/2 starters, and had the ball down 3 with under 4 minutes left against what I believe is a top 25 team, Just a few days after being 1 play away from winning at Kent.

Re: vs. Akron (1/9)
We really miss Thomas defensively. He allows us to play man more straight up instead of the high risk gambling we've been doing.
He's also the only guy other than Campbell who the staff let's initiate possessions. I worry we're putting too much on Campbell's plate on offense right now. He's a great player but we're asking him to initiate every possession 40 mins a night.

The broadcast said Ruffin had the flu and didn't practice all week. I'm guessing Thomas is something similar or nagging him since he's had odd minutes the last two gamesMatty B wrote: ↑Fri Jan 09, 2026 10:44 pm^^^THIS^^^

Re: vs. Akron (1/9)
MEDIA ALERT: BGSU announces it will no longer compete vs the University of Akron in men’s basketball. Since losing 38 of the last 45 meetings to the Zips, BG has agreed to simply forfeit every future meeting moving forward to help both schools save money on travel costs since the Falcons cannot compete in this series. In addition, if the two schools are set to meet in the MAC Tournament, BGSU will forfeit an additional game because aside from not being able to beat Akron, BG also cannot win the MAC Tournament (BGSU is the only school to never win the MACC) so they will just step aside and take the guaranteed loss instead of wasting two plus hours seeing it being played out.
GO BG!!!
Re: vs. Akron (1/9)
Thomas rolled his ankle in the final minute of the Miami game. Sat out the UMass game, probably doesn't play in either of the past 2 games if Ruffin was fully healthy. He's clearly hobbling a bit. Hopefully with a healthy Ruffin we can get him back to 100%.fanatic13 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 09, 2026 11:07 pmThe broadcast said Ruffin had the flu and didn't practice all week. Re: vs. Akron (1/9)
Sounds like a good time to get a full week off. Akron and Miami just have so many shooters they make it difficult to have off shooting nights. Those are really good MAC teams. The more they pull away from the pack, it increases the chances the coaches get poached. BG will be right in the middle of it come the tournament, just have to hope for a good draw and some things to fall there way.
