MAC QUARTERFINALS: vs. Toledo (3/12)

Am I blind or was that a block
Re: MAC QUARTERFINALS: vs. Toledo (3/12)
Campbell is gonna get blitzed here. Somebody else is going to have to make a play.
And I hope like hell he's willing to give it up then get it back. HE can't beat 2-3 guys.

Horrendous officiating
Re: MAC QUARTERFINALS: vs. Toledo (3/12)
Damn Towns not getting that ball in and wasting our final TO really hurt there. Still, had a look, surprised Thomas didn't finish honestly.
Re: MAC QUARTERFINALS: vs. Toledo (3/12)
Lost by 1. Tough way to lose.
Todd’s gotta step up next year. He doesn’t win any big games, and his record is barely over .500. It’s time to prove you’re better than Huger.

Well, on to next year. Counting on officiating is a terrible strategy. We have to get guys that are constant three point threats.
Re: MAC QUARTERFINALS: vs. Toledo (3/12)
That game was a painful summary of this program
Re: MAC QUARTERFINALS: vs. Toledo (3/12)
We had some, we need more.
More importantly, we need to run an actual half court offense that gets those guys open shots. And we have to take them...a lot more of them. BG finished 8th in 3p%, but Kent was 4th at .361, we were .346. That 1.5% difference in shooting means very little. The difference is they did that while shooting 7 more per game than we did. Miami, KSU, and Akron all shot north of 25 threes per game. We shot under 21.
I don't expect next year to be much different, but they don't just need to find shooters. They need to devise an offense predicated around getting those shots. The number of games we gave up 10, 15, 20 points at the arc this year...you can't overcome that. Today it was 9 points, but that WAS due to shooting percentages as we actually took 1 more than UT.
You simply cannot play winning basketball in 2026 by driving to the lane and attacking the rim as your only offense.

Wait, what???.....BG lost in the MAC Tournament??? This must be some kind of a joke....
GO BG!!!
Re: MAC QUARTERFINALS: vs. Toledo (3/12)
I honestly feel bad for the people on here who care about BG hoops like I used to not too long ago. For those who hold out hope for this program like I used to. For the one who believe like I once used to. But you're all simply wasting your time, energy, money, etc., concerning this program. It's arguable THE most irrelevant program of the 352 teams that compete in D-I. BGSUCKS has never won a MAC Tournament, hasn't been to the NCAA Tournament since 1968, and has two postseason wins in obscure tournaments since the 1970's. It's a putrid program that will only continue to fail and fall short. Not even an influx of donated money and a new arena could change or save it. The sooner those of you who care actually come to this realization and walk away and stop caring about it (because it won't change a damn thing) - the better. This program will only continue to provide you with more disappointment, pain and frustration like it has produced for the past FOUR and a HALF DECADES now. Sadly - that - is really all, that this program can be counted on to produce.
GO BG!!!

Hammb, you are 100% right on this. And what is frustrating is that this is exactly what Simon’s Southern Utah team’s did so well. It’s the little things…consistently bad free throw shooting, having bad offensive possessions at key points in a game and an inability to guard the 3 pt. Line.hammb wrote: ↑Thu Mar 12, 2026 3:50 pmWe had some, we need more.

To your point, if you’re going to choose to only attack the rim, you better shoot free throws well…especially in the MAC.

Todd Walker sounds exactly like I would expect a man who has watched every BGSU football and men’s basketball over the past 20 years…dead inside.Tricky_Falcon wrote: ↑Thu Mar 12, 2026 3:06 pm Todd Walker sounds like a man who has watched too much BG basketball and knows where this one is headed.

The two head coaches gave one of those warm Ben Johnson/Matt LaFleur handshakes at the end.

The bigger issue, IMO, is poor Xs & Os, specifically on offense. Too much iso PG heavy ball, not nearly enough motion/passing. This year especially I think we'd see guys like Towns, SHackleford, Thomas as more capable outside shooters if they were getting feet set catch'n'shoot looks. We do way too much standing around watching Campbell attack.
Defensively I hate our insistence on help/gambling for turnovers when this group could conceivably play good straight up defense. I think it's mostly predicated by a lack of half court offensive plan, so we feel like we have to get out and run if we want to score.
7-0 run gets us in the game, Toledo Tod takes a TO
In the age of NIL, you can forget about roster construction. Every year, BG has to scramble to replace 7-10 roster spots with guys not good enough to get decent NIL money.

Re: MAC QUARTERFINALS: vs. Toledo (3/12)
Bingo. Which answers why it’s so PG/Iso heavy. Campbell was a good returning player, easier to build a team around that with so many unknowns. I don’t hate what Simon is doing but we need to get more size, you’re seeing teams like UConn and Michigan build elite teams by simply having very big lineups with upperclassmen and grad students.BleedOrange wrote: ↑Fri Mar 13, 2026 12:25 pm In the age of NIL, you can forget about roster construction.
