It truly was a great season for Campbell. Honestly he should have gotten much more consideration for MAC POY. Probably a miss on our athletic department for not hyping this campaign more.

Campbell Led the conference in scoring in MAC games (21.4 ppg), 1st in Steals, 3rd in Assists. I mean, DPOY that also leads the conference in scoring, on paper that should be a no-brainer for the overall POY, right?

Peter Suder and Tavari Johnson got all the hype for the award, but they were really just a "best player on best team" situation. Campbell had better stats than both, and both Akron and Miami had 4+ players on the All-MAC teams, while BG didnt have another player sniff any postseason awards. Maybe more telling is how many times I wrote "we gave up a big run while Campbell was on the bench" on this board this year 🤣.

A great individual season from Javontae Campbell that unfortunately won't get talked about because of the mediocre team performance.

Due to the reasons you laid out I think Javontae had a VERY strong case to be considered the MVP of the MAC.

The fact that he was a fantastic 2-way player, in my mind, put him easily in the conversation as the best player in the MAC as well.

Unfortunately, (and I'm sure somebody can find history to prove me wrong), it feels like you have to be on one of the top 2-3 teams as well to get real POY consideration. Especially in a season with a couple teams as good as Akron/Miami were.

I could be wrong but I thought that juco years don't count anymore?

Is there anyone else in the portal yet? Only 3 players with our roster size is a good sign so far.

Assuming I'm correct on the first point it would be perfect if we could somehow keep Shackelford and Glover

Shamelessly stolen from the Miami message board. Gillespie is also in the portal now which leaves Skaljac from Miami as the only all MAC first, second, or third team player with eligibility not in the portal

EMU is the only other MAC team with a transfer in so far. Quick work by Simon and the coaching staff

Kimbrough in the portal. More to come I’m pretty sure, which is probably a good thing. My best guess on staying at this point is Leach, Karel, Shackelford.

Getting Shackelford back for another year would be a huge deal for us. It felt like he was our best player at times this past season.

Hearing he’s back. We’ll wait and see for an official announcement.

So happy to keep Josiah around. There's more game in there.

I thought Kimbrough could play too, was always bummed he couldn't see the court

Huge for us. He can score at all levels, showed some explosive scoring ability, and defended multiple positions including the post

I hope we can keep Leach around as well. He struggled with the transition from NLL to D1, but that's not surprising. NLL basketball mostly sucks. He looked to be an athlete that can fit here though. If he works on his shot and the little things I think he can be a nice scoring guard for us.

I think Kimbrough is kind of the odd man out after signing Torbert and bringing in Simmons from D2. The ball should move much better with this collection of guards. I feel confident Leach and Karel will both be back. Goins is very possible too. I have no idea on Squire or Adem. They need rim protection and length on the wing.
