very nice article. I can't help but like Dakich as a guy. My favorite Dakich moment? A was sitting with a couple friends at the Gund for the Women's semifinal 2 years ago. Dakich comes walking up the stairs ( this is the day after we got ousted from the tournament) and a friend of mine asks "how ya doin coach". He looks at all of with a tiny smile and says "I'm doin sh**ty how are you guys doin!" We about lost it.

That is still one of my greatest BG memories! I can't ever not like Dakich after that!Jacobs4Heisman wrote:very nice article. I can't help but like Dakich as a guy. My favorite Dakich moment? Just a point of clarification form the article. Andrew is 11 and probably does play on a sixth-grade team. But he will only be entering the fifth grade this fall. So, anyone looking ahead, Andrew's first season with the Falcons would be 2012-2013.
Other than that, I thought it was a great article and is spot-on about how Dakich is around town. He absolutely knows everyone. 8)

I really like Dakich a lot because he's a straight shooter. I like that about him, he doesn't sugarcoat things. Being a Chicago Bear fan, that's also what I loved about Mike Ditka. These guys tell it like it is. I really hope we can finally put together the type of season we hope and know we can. Every year I keep thinking this is going to be the season we finally do it. But we just keep falling short one way or another. Like I've been saying for years now, maybe this season is the one????
GO BG!!!
On a semi-related threadjack, I was thinking the same thing the other day (but not about DD). Why does everyone always answer "how ya doin?" with something either positive, or positively neutral?Jacobs4Heisman wrote:Dakich comes walking up the stairs ( this is the day after we got ousted from the tournament) and a friend of mine asks "how ya doin coach". "I'm great!"
"Pretty good."
"I'm all right."
The other day at work, I thought my transmission had died on me in the lot, and someone in passing said "How's it going?" My response... "Pretty good!" Even in a cheery type voice. When in fact, it wasn't "pretty good" at all... It was downright shitty? Why didn't I say, "How's it going? How's it going? Listen. It sucks. It's hot, I'm at work, and my car is staring down the barrel of a grand or two in repairs. Why don't you take your How's it going? and stick it up your freaking ass!"
But I didn't. I smiled and said "Pretty good."

That's funny, because PGY's Ph.D. mentor and my boss (same person) responds with some derivation of "Horrible" no matter the situation. It has to be quite interesting on his end to watch people's reactions to his answer. The first couple of times he responds this way, it really throws you for a loop. I always used to think, is he really in a bad mood or not, because he smiled when he said "horrible". The thought process after he answers "horrible" causes real mental torsion and you wonder whether you should proceed in bothering him at this moment. After awhile, you just tend to avoid small talk questions like "How's it going" and try to jump right down to business. It's not like anyone really wants an honest full-fledged answer to "how's it going" anyways.TG1996 wrote: On a semi-related threadjack, I was thinking the same thing the other day (but not about DD). Because when people ask you they don't really care how you are.TG1996 wrote: On a semi-related threadjack, I was thinking the same thing the other day (but not about DD). Why does everyone always answer "how ya doin?" with something either positive, or positively neutral?

$300!?!? Wow. Of course a tow to BG might be a bit pricey for me...Germainfitch1 wrote:I'm not sure where your from but I just have a story/tip for you. My transmission just died here in Columbus and I took it to a dealer. They said it was going to cost 3000$, I asked around and eventually had it towed up to the BG area. I had it fixed for 300$. Be careful.
I'll have to keep that $300 idea in mind, though!

That would be my answer as well. You only ask the question to be polite. In all honesty, you couldn't care less about "how's it going" for someone else.Lord_Byron wrote:Because when people ask you they don't really care how you are.TG1996 wrote: On a semi-related threadjack, I was thinking the same thing the other day (but not about DD). For years my response to the question "how ya doing?" was always to say "average". I responded that way to be a smart-a$$, as this isn't one of the typical response that you expect to hear back. You definitely get a lot of strange looks or chuckles when you answer the question "how ya doing?" with an unexpected answer!TG1996 wrote: On a semi-related threadjack, I was thinking the same thing the other day (but not about DD). So what you're saying is people really don't care about me? WHY?!?!?
Thanks guys. Anyone know the number for a good therapist?

That is funny! I really like Coach D as well. My fave memory of him is a few years back at Kent. The game was on Fox Sports Net and BG was getting hammered early in the 2nd half, 57-33.Jacobs4Heisman wrote:very nice article. I can't help but like Dakich as a guy. My favorite Dakich moment? Some Kent fans behind the BG bench were riding Coach pretty hard..."Hey Coach, this is gonna the longest f&*$#*g night of your life, buddy!!!" They kept this up all thru the 1st half cuz Kent was drilling us.
But then....the improbable happened. BG started coming back. At first, the lead got down to 20...then 15....12.....6....tie game. BG ended up winning that thing 78-74!! One of the greatest comebacks I have ever seen. During the last media timeout....BG basically has the game iced.
Coach set up the huddle in a great way. He had every player turn around and face these guys and then Coach said "How the hell do you like us now, buddy???????????", and started busting out laughing. Those Kent fans just sat there...what could they say?
Man, that was great!
