I know my dad and I would pitch in some jack for that great idea. He is always talking about Thurmond, Komives and Darrow. He graduated in 1964 and saw some of the best BG teams ever.Dayons_Den wrote:I was at the ceremony in 1985 (or 6) in which Nate Thurmond was recognized and presented his jersey.
Following that day a framed Falcons 42 jersey was placed in the lobby of Memorial Hall, near the entrance to the student section of Anderson Arena.
I noticed last year that it had been absent for sometime. One day last year I was walking through Memorial Hall and spotted Don Cunningham the athletics archivist and I asked "hey, what happened to the Thurmond jersey?" He replied that it had been stolen off the wall not once but twice and they hadn't replaced it the most recent time.
He had mentioned they were possibly going to frame one of the pricey throwbacks they sell at the union bookstore, but to this day there still is not a jersey hanging .
I say one of two things, there needs to be a banner along with the championship banners and perhaps it could look like this:
Or we the members of AZZ pitch in $5 or $10 each to purchase the jersey from the bookstore, have it framed, and include a plaque with some stats/bio info on Big Nate, and of course "donated by the members of ay-ziggy-zoomba.com"
His presence has been absent far too long.

Dammit, those guys were synonomous in my mind with the archival closet at Memorial Hall and I never could keep who was who. Open mouth insert foot on my part. .TG1996 wrote:Not to pick nits, but if you spotted Don Cunningham last year, I want some of what you've been drinking!!!Dayons_Den wrote: One day last year I was walking through Memorial Hall and spotted Don Cunningham the athletics archivist...
