Re: Coach Orr Pros and Cons
The end of a game or season doesn't matter either in the long run. It's a tradition sure, but it's also a respect thing. It's a way to say "Thank you" to an institution that gave you the PRIVILEGE of representing them. It's a way to say "Thank you" to a fan base that has come out to cheer you on even if the outcome is not a victory. Is it really that difficult to set aside an extra 3 minutes to say "Thank you" before running to the locker room and crying about yet another season lost? If the answer to that question is "yes" then maybe the institution made a mistake when the scholarship was offered.

Isn't that the definition of "tradition"?BleedOrange wrote:. . . It's tradition for tradition sake, regardless of whether the act itself makes any sense whatsoever. . .
Doing something for the sake of doing it is what binds groups that have something in common together. When we lose traditions because of practicality, we lose a little of ouselves.

I was more disappointed with the fact that the CMU players ran off the court into the locker room and did not stick around for the post-game hand shake.BleedOrange wrote: I disagree. After 40 minutes of basketball, and the season coming to an end in such a fashion, the last thing player needs to do is stand there and sing a damned song. It may be a tradition, but it's a stupid, silly tradition. Hokey. It's tradition for tradition sake, regardless of whether the act itself makes any sense whatsoever. Time for some folks to get a grip on human nature and the realities of life. Some things matter. Some don't. Get over it.
BTW - the song our players were to be singing is not a damn song, it's our Alma Mater. I don't care what you do for a damn song, but for the Alma Mater and the National Anthem you show some respect.

Ya, another sign of how mediocre the program has become. We are discussing Alma Mater protocol and not and upcoming MAC Tournament game. Can Jack Carle or John Wagner get a quote from Lou on the matter? Probably not.

I agree...it's not a "damn song" it's the alma mater of the institution you're representing. Quit being a little diva and man up and pay respect to the school that's proviidng you an opportunity to get an education.

Often we hear how playing sports help prepare young people for life. Sports help athletes learn to deal with the ups and downs they'll encounter. If this is the case, then singing when one doesn't feel like singing is an important part of the learning process.

Tradition???? WTF are you guys talking about? The alma mater "tradition" was started by one Louis Orr about 5 years ago and adopted by the WBB team. I think we've been doing Ay Ziggy Zoomba longer than that! So, the "tradition" can leave with Orr as far as I'm concerned.
