Personally, I don't agree with that...forgive me if I misstated the concept.

I do think that Dan may have benefitted form working under a different coach than Knight if only to get exposed to a different philosophy, but that's just my opinion.
No, that is what I am trying to say. I was not trying to say that we shoud hire Bobby Knight or whatever else people took from my statement. If you like at Knight lately even Bobby can't pull in the big time recruits like he used to. So being Knight isn't even working for Knight, so Dan better come up withsomething else or start applying for high school jobs back in indiana.

I find it interesting that you bring up Bobby Knight and say how people want to play for him. While that may be true to some extent, one of the biggest criticisms of Knight at Indiana is that he had a number of high profile players (Jason Collier, Luke Recker, Delray Brooks, Neil Reid, Sherron Wilkerson, etc.) transfer out of the program.

Off the court he is a good guy, fun to be around. But on the court Knight is a real son of a bitch. And from all accounts that I have heard, Dakich is the same way.
I would say this guy agrees with what you are saying here:

"What gets you through life is being able to handle good, being able to handle bad, and more than anything, being a very competitive person. That's how we go about it. Of course, when the day's over, kids can come in my office and talk, laugh, whatever. But when it's time for basketball, we're all business. We're going to be competitive and we're going to be intense.
Now that doesn't sound all that bad does it? Guess what -- That's exactly how coach Knight does it." Dan Dakich in an article from College Insider

Coach K. also played under Knight and uses the same coaching style...Oh yeah and coach K also got a technical last night I guess it's not only Dakich that gets them.

Also it's not these coaches trying to be like coach Knight because they are wannabes. It's how they learned to play basketball under one of the best coaches of all time. They learned how to play basketball the right way. That is what they are trying to teach as coaches. They use this coaching style because it has been proven to be successful. Like I've said in other threads Dakich has to recruit players that want to learn and be a little bit more mentally strong.

If you ask any current or former great basketball player current if they loved their coach and were buddies during their college playing days you probably wouldn't find many but it's after the player went to the NBA and matured that they finally realized that maybe coach was trying to make me a better basketball player and eventually fell inlove with the coach and says that they would want their son to play for that coach...
