Fact is, this GMU team has made it farther in the tourney than any Gonzaga team ever has. Gonzaga should strive to be the GMU of the West. (And frankly, I'm damned glad I don't have to watch any more of Adam Morrison. I can't wait until Ben Walllace gets ahold of him next year.)PGY Tiercel wrote:"Gonzaga of the East". Gonzaga just spent $25 million on a new arena.ZuluWarrior wrote:I haven't said it before and I'd like to think we could figure out a way to renovate Anderson to 7,500 capacity, but if not we need a new facility.
It has 6,000 seats.
And Spokane is almost as big as Fort Wayne or Akron.
We don't need 7,500 seats.

Spokane's not our benchmark. God know why they did what they did.Schadenfreude wrote:Gonzaga just spent $25 million on a new arena.ZuluWarrior wrote:I haven't said it before and I'd like to think we could figure out a way to renovate Anderson to 7,500 capacity, but if not we need a new facility.

If we're going to build 6,000 seats, another JAR like at Akron, I say "why the hell bother?" We already have a 5,000 seat gym. The money could be used better elsewhere.

Interesting Larranaga Story
Heard this from a good friend of Larranaga's sons. The entire time Jim Larranaga was here - he had the blueprints for the proposed Convocation Center ( ice arena and basketball facility) rolled up under his sofa. When they were loading up things, during his move - there they still were under the sofa. He said, " I guess I won't be needing this anymore."
So for about 19 years - this has been proposed???????????? What the heck is the hold up????????
For the record, I was ready for Larranaga to leave. I was tired of the whistling and foot stomping - - and watching kids look over their shoulder because they would get pulled out for a little mistake - - - but he did recruit great athletes and basketball was fun to watch when he was here.
Overall, don't you think the entire MAC is worse than it was 5 or 6 years ago? It seems to me that it is.

Re: Interesting Larranaga Story
Big time. A few years ago, the MAC had 7 or 8 future NBA players. (Hunter, McLeod, TSmith, Kaman, Slay, Szerbiak, Newble, TJ Lux, etc.) Stempin, Webber, and VanHoose were tough as well. Furthermore, OU had tons of talent that Coach Hunter could never seems to do anything with. Then, the MAC was severely underrated, but it's bottoming out. We'll be back. Things go in cycles.Red Wing Fan wrote: Overall, don't you think the entire MAC is worse than it was 5 or 6 years ago? It seems to me that it is.

Oh, silly me. I forgot to mention all of those good players at Kent.BleedOrange wrote:Big time. A few years ago, the MAC had 7 or 8 future NBA players.
