Yeah, that about sums it up. You have a very smart kid. Sounds like a future Bobcat in the making.

A big vulnerability for us is that 40% of our shots are taken by Samarco, who is primarily a jump shooter. Samarco had his 2nd horrible shooting day of the season yesterday, and when he's taking 25 shots and shooting badly, we may as well walk of the floor. I've noticed that Samarco has been forcing things too much this season and too often driving into the interior when he cannot finish. This team lives and dies with Samarco. That's not good.

Another issue is that only 5 guys got a decent amount of playing time. Dusen played 34 minutes, had 0 rebounds, 0 assists, attempted no free throws, and scored three points. (Two of their front liners were digits for rebounds and points.) Polk, Larson, and Sullivan all had miniscule minutes. So, with Marcshall out we lose by 14 at home and didn't even get our front line pups game experience as something to show for it. I just can't get over this.

We were out rebounded by 17 yesterday, and they attempted 10 more free throws than we did.

Man am I glad I didn't make the trip for this one.

The Bears (4-5) recorded their first win as an NCAA Division I program against a Division I team, placing five players in double figures and holding Bowling Green's star player Martin Samarco in check.

The football analogy here is the 2000 Buffalo game.

Stick a fork in Dakich. He's done.

Some of you will recall that Gary Blackney announced he would be leaving BG on the Tuesday following that game.

It seems to me Dakich has more time to play with if he wanted to do something similar. Maybe the first week of January.

It's a shame. He's a good guy.

(Edited to add "if he wanted to do something similar")

I don't believe you will see Coach Dakich do anything until the season is over. It just isn't in his DNA.

I don't think you'll see him do anything before the year is over either. He knows he's done, or he would've gotten an extension already. We know he's done. The team knows he's done. Why bother making an announcement?

The only way Dakich is around for another year would be a miraculous run at a MAC title...even then I don't think he gets more than a one year extension, for another lame duck year.

As I said in the other thread last week, I like Dan Dakich, but I just don't think he can win here anymore. He may go on to be a great coach elsewhere, but I think he's done here.

That seems like great point, but do you suppose it's possible that the AD, being new, is simply waiting until the end of the season to say/do anything in either direction?

If the decision to extend his contract had been made, it would absolutely have been done by now so he could recruit. I believe that with 100% certainty.

I also don't think we would make a move during the season.

So, the decision might be up in the air. Hammb is right, a miraculous run could still get him an extension (ala Joplin), but it won't be easy.

I am going to respond to your thoughts of the other teams in the league and completely disagree with you. Miami took Illinois down to the wire on the road and barely lost to Michigan at home. Those games are a little tougher than Central Arkansas, Arkansas State, Furman, etc.... It does not matter that Akron has no discipline if that is what you believe because their talent level exceeds ours so much that it is not even funny. By the way they beat Oral Roberts on the road and if you guys remember that was the team that beat Kansas on the road to start the season. Toledo has been brutalized by an extremely difficult schedule and did play Kansas tough today at Kemper Arena. Lets be honest here guys this schedule we are playing is horrible and we are getting these teams at home. I am going to root for this team just as much as the next guy but I will also be first in line to buy a round of shots once this season is over because i will no longer have to see Dan Dakich head the sidelines as coach of the Bowling Green Falcons. I just wish people on here would get a reality check when they talk about great EVERY NEW PLAYER is. Its the same story with you guys as have been readin this site for a couple years now. The problem with our program is DD and the fact he has ran off almost two teams worth of guys. There is denying that.

All this after one loss after a 3 game winning streak. My goodness people, will you be singing praises in a few weeks if this team plays like it played against South Alabama, Troy, and Arkansas State? I almost thought I would come on here and see positive posts after the unbelievable amount of negative posts during the 3 game winning streak.

It was tough to sit and watch that game yesterday...no shots seemed to be falling for us. The empty seats in AA yesteday were disturbing and Grant and Hammb said that was a usual crowd these days. Ouch. I don't think there were more than 50 students at this game.

Ugh. I hope they get back on track right away. I was excited to get to the game but it went sour in a hurry.

IKeepItReal wrote:Well first we have people coming back to OhioBobcat with sayings such as "our marching band is better than yours" but to make matters much worse I just did a cross check and today was the first D1 victory for Central Arkansas this season. Knowing that this is their first year in D1 I decided to check to see if they have any other D1 victories and to my dismay they did not. The Bowling Green Falcons were the first D1 victory ever for Central Arkansas. We are a far cry from the rest of the MAC as we are losing at home to a team like this by 15 while Buffalo is in a 1 point game with the #2 team in the country as I am writing this. Please will everyone stop predicting 18-20 wins for this team. We will be lucky to win 10 even with our soft non-conference schedule.
WHEW! Thank God the sun came up on Sunday and today. Here's hoping it also comes up tomorrow.

DD always attributes losses to "lack of competiveness" or something along those lines.

While that might be a factor, our losses seem to convenietly coincide with terrible shooting performances.

DD should spend less time bemoaning "competiveness" in the media and more time working on layup and shooting drills to improve the team's field goal percentage. In a previous Blade article, DD mentions how the team went through 2 hours of defensive drills. Where's the O? If the simple screen combinations of the motion offense aren't working for this team, shake it up and try something different. Play to the strengths of the players. I don't want to rely on Samarco shooting 55% to win every game.

It's a simple observation, but the men's sports programs this Fall, and it will continue through the Winter, just plain suck across the board. I've never seen anything worse. We're low on the totem pole. Hopefully the new athletic director will bring about the necessary changes, but I'm not gonna hold my breath. It will all begin at the recruiting end of it. A healthy c ollection of good athletes can always make things happen inspite of the coaches. Having good athletes is where it all begins. Championships happen when good athletes and good coaches come together. I used to love BG basketball, but Dakish ruined that for me with his assignine sideline behavior as well as the student spectators who've turned into a collection of rudeness. So I don't go to basketball games anymore. I'm still t uned into the football program, but if things don't get turned around there, well.............
