Our 2002 snub bugged me. 3 of our losses were against Elite 8 KSU. Unfortunately I can see why we were left out. We were a bubble team and they sometimes get left out. In the end, I'm pretty sure the reason we were left out was 2 road losses against mediocre (at best) Toledo & Akron teams. Those were not "quality losses". I thought we deserved to be in, but was not shocked when we were snubbed.

The thing in my mind is... any of those years, ANY year since the MAC tourney began, if we win the tournament, we're in. We don't win the MAC tourney, we don't go, it's that simple.

I'm tired of officials and selection committees getting blamed for every loss and misfortune...

G,

That's the thing that makes this all so hard to accept. Just win the damn tourney ONCE....get the automatic bid. The tourney started in 1980 and BG played in the first title game...a loss to that school up north. 3 years later BG was there again at home and lost in the title game to Ohio. the only other title appearance is 2002...KSU's Super Elite 8 team. BG got hosed BiG time that year by the committee.

Almost 30 years have gone by and BG has never won the tourney??? That kills me. I'm also 39, born Feb 1968. Wow. I hope we get there someday soon. Please. :x

The MAC Regular Season means absolutely nothing. I'm not sure why the MAC even plays a regular season conference schedule. Everybody should schedule their games against those opponents they want to play. Then we meet as a conference in March to decide who gets the automatic bid.

As a high school senior in 1968 I got to watch the Falcons drop a one-point decision to Marquette at Kent State in the first round of the NCAA.

I don't recall the term "The Dance" being around in those days. But at least I've seen it once in my life. Now for a chorus of Bob Dylan singing "Blowin' In the Wind" because that's certainly about all we can say as to when it might happen to the Falcon men.

I think it is amazing that an NCAA tourney game was played @ Kent. How things have changed.

Make it 40 years. :( It looks like all of the teams whose last trip was before 1968 will fail to make this year's field of 65. This assumes that Northwestern will fail to make a miraculous run at the Big 10 tourney.

Hopefully next year.

The 1997, 2000 and 2002 seasons still haunt me every time I think about them. They are also a reminder of how important it is to finish the job when you are good, because when you're not, you may as well forget it from the start of the season. This tournament is difficult to win for any of the good teams in a respective year. During the BG/Miami game the other day, FSN was showing MAC Tournament clips and they showed the 35-footer JG hit on us and it put me in a bad mood instantly. When I first stepped foot on campus in 1993, our NCAA drought was 25 years. Fifteen years later, it's now reached 40 years. I'm beginning to wonder if some of us will ever see the day we go dancing in our lifetime.

Actually American University plays in the Patriot League final on Friday with a chance to end 41 years of futility. Good luck to them.

The American East title game Saturday with knock one team from the teams that have not gone dancing, but joined DI after BG's last NCAA tourney appearance list, as both Maryland-Baltimore County and Hartford are on that list

You may be right, but if Kent doesn't win the tourney, they WILL get an at large bid and the MAC will be a 2-bid conference.

Ohio and Akron would show up as 12 or 13 seeds. I believe that either one of those teams could potentially give a 5 or 4 seed a run for their money.

There have already been a couple upsets in the mid major conference tournaments that will suck up some at large bids. I don't believe that KSU would get an at large if they don't win the MAC tournament, and I'd say BG's win over them would be a large reason why.

I was thrilled the day we beat KSU, but going into that game I thought that if we won it would end KSU's chances at an at large bid. I just don't see them getting in if they end their season with another loss.
