Yah, but you should have seen Monk OFF the court

The older BG fans will remember Monk Montgomery, still my all-time most hated Falcon, only because there was absolutely NO understadning how this scrawny, slow, little twerp was so good. Plus he had small man syndrome, just like Dials, and he was always strutting around on the court.

UT's equivalent was a guy named John Hodak, but after two surprising years we found out he really WASN't any good- just scrawny and cocky. Just lit up BG one night though, but I even hated Hodak. :-D
One memorable moment was a grueling game where his legs cramped up. Too many 12 oz. curls at the local watering hole :-D

I'm still ambivalent about JAKO. He needs to get stronger, and learn to go to his right. Why does BG get the boatload of LH point guards? It's so much easier for the right-handed player to defend him. Brandon Pardon dished out about 13 assists his very first game, but we didn't get him as a freshman. Maybe JAKO can get to that point down the road....there's always hope.

That would be me h2 (see above in "bold") :) - still remember the game Jeff et al played against Marquette (Jim Chones & Dean "the dream" Memminger) in AA. We kept it close for awhile, however ended up losing by double digits. :( Trying hard to recall rest of Falcons - Dan McLemore?, anyone else know?

Just so you know....

Post by falconmama2007 »

The last couple games there has been a flu virus and Nate had it bad especially the last game. I commend these players for doing what they do. For me outside of the lost it was a fun, exciting game. From the outside looking in it may appear to look one way, but I know it took heart for some to play in that game. I too had the flu this week and I called in sick at work. If I woud have had to play in a game I would have flat out said no!

That would explain the "lethargic" team I saw. Heres to hoping the kids get healthy and fast.

PS They should all be getting flu shots every year.

I was thinking Cash, Howard, the 7 foot transfer from Maryland who never panned out, Steve Cooper, the guy we gave up in the trade for jim Kindle-our best deal EVER!

"yellow H2O" has it right. Cash, Howard and Montgomery were all in Pat Haley's recruiting class that many thought would be one of the best ever in the MAC.

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR....The Free throw shooting is making me crazy. IMO, that's where we lost the game.

Dials? Yeah I don't like the kid but he came thru huge yesterday.

Grant,
Thanks so much for the Brian McClure board!!!! I really appreciate it.

I was thinking more in line of guys you love to hate- don't think Lehman qualified there but he was difinitley not a basketball prototype. His son plays for Central Catholic in Toledo and is pretty good but apparantly a better baseball player with some pro poteential. As an aside, I was looking at Southview's hoops roster- there's a Joplin, a Borcherdt, and a Northrup. Looks like an old UT program from the 80s.

Akron: They didnt look very good to me. No one stood out and they are not great in any area. If that is the best the MAC has to offer than the MAC is way down this year.

Akron is fundementally sound. The same things you complain about on our team, they don't have to deal with. That and 'Hand Soap' shoots the friggin lights out. They also don't have (small) Wood.

This game was about free throws. The good fundemental team won.
Let's remember that Akron was without their best player, Jeremiah Wood. He's likely to be 1st team all MAC, and his absence probably had everything to do why we outrebounded them so badly.

I don't believe there is a "Joplin" on the roster at Southview anymore, as he is academically INELIGIBLE!! Would someone please explain to me how a Division I coach can let their kid go INELIGIBLE in HIGH SCHOOL? That says a lot to me!!!

Dan McLemore (Toledo Libby?) played in late 60's -1970 which I believe was before Montgomery. He partnered with Jim Penix from Rossford who is still one of the best pure shooters I ever saw.
