I'm sorry, but both of these ideas, in my opinion, are absolutely out of the question.
SicSic is one of the oldest traditions on this campus. The last thing we need to be doing is getting rid of any more traditions.

Also, having spent this weekend with the cheerleaders and dance team at the tourney, they did a great job of working together to try and get cheers going, either joining with the band or starting them on their own.

If anything, the students just need to get their act together and organize better.

Trotter - thanks very much for your vote of confidence to me and my many brothers and sisters who spent countless nights and mornings attempting to build campus spirit. Maybe you were one of the students who, rather than giving us a pat on the back and offering encouragement, opted to make every effort to uncover our identity - including inflicting personal injury - by waiting in ambush. Rather than arbitrarily suggesting that we be dis-banded, please share with all what you have done to build spirit for my great alma mater????

So the cheerleaders and Sic Sic are so good that they currently dont get the fans "act together" but that is the fans fault? Seems logical.

In terms of getting rid of traditions, sometimes when the tradition does no one any good you need to move on Sic Sic is just not a very good tradition anymore. Masks of Shaggy throwing candy in the air, thats motivational? Keep sic sic and take the masks off and make it a yell squad.

You also say that the last thing we need to do is get rid of more traditions, what traditions have we gotten rid of?

Actually it wasnt him, or Havliceck. It was a black guy jumping for a basketball, and I assumed it was John Lucas because of that. Now I learned that he went to maryland and Jerry went to OSU. Thanks factman. Any ideas who the guy could have been? It wasnt JJ. And it was old school.

I am sorry if you are offended, but the current version of Sic Sic doesnt do anything for me, they never have. And I guarantee you I am not alone in this. I like the idea of what they are trying to do but since I have followed BG sports i haven't seen them do anything that was motivational. They make signs and dance around and throw candy. I would think that we can hold on to the tradition and do it better. Holding on to a tradition just because it is a tradition is foolish. Sometimes things need to evolved or disappear.

Apology accepted, however I am still waiting for evidence of what you, and others who share your feelings, have done to instill/build campus spirit? In addition, "making signs and throwing candy" is only a small part of what WE do, hence the "secretive" aspect of OUR organization:

Well over a hundred fine young men and women hold this "tradition" very near and dear to our hearts and in confidently speaking for them, feel that it should continue as is for the next 60+ years!! (Maybe we should quit singing Ay Ziggy Zoomba before, during and after campus events because a few find it non-motivational? )

Ay-Ziggy-Zoomba is motivational. Candy and masks arent. Take off the masks and make it a different scenario. Have them yell instead of do stupid dances and throw candy. I am not sure how anyone not being a former cheerleader, band member or sic sic member disqualifies them from having an opinion. And I think that you are taking this too personally. Its not that people dont appreciate the effort, everyone does, its that that effort could be used much more efficiently somewhere else.

Because the trip to Oxford & back kicked my a$$ yesterday :smt015 , suffice it to say - I'm still waiting to learn of your contributions? And yes, I DO take it personally, because I love BG and I am VERY PROUD of the contributions I (and my brothers & sisters) have made to BGSU. Sorry we haven't contributed as much as you have. :?

Ps. And I never said you were not entitled to your opinion. That is what this forum is for.

Wouldnt it be more rewarding if all of those hours and the devotion to Falcon athletics made an immediate noticeable difference.

and I am not going to go into detail about my involvement or lack thereof because that would go directly against my statement that it doesnt matter if I was involved or not.

I dont want you to feel unapreciated, rather that your and your brothers and sisters talents might be better utilized in todays falcon environment

Factman, check this out. This is the next best thing to an ignore button!!!

There are a kazillion free addons for the Firefox browser, one of which is "Nuke Anything Enhanced". All I have to highlight something in the browser and right-click on it, and the pop-up menu shows "Remove selection". Poof! Gone! I can highlight entire posts, "remove selection", and I no long see them. Anyone can use this addon to blow away all of this dogshit going back and forth about cheerleaders! Poof! Falconboy's graphics? Poof? Hammbone's Farley belly going in an out? Poof! Gone, baby! GONE!

Globetrotter, I'll be the first to admit that I'm not crazy about SicSic and some of their antics either. But let's face it, they are the official BGSU Spirit Crew, and as such they are some of the biggest fans and supporters of falcon athletics. To say they should be eliminated after decades of history and support is ludicrous. Period.

Biggest fans and supporters? I see them at maybe half of the basketball games for the 2nd half only. They walk the sidelines throwing candy and doing stupid dances at timeouts. I don't think that SicSic should be no more, but perhaps informing students of what SicSic is, because most students say "what the heck are they" and if someone knows, all they know is they're masked people who run around.

Understanding the tradition and history of the program would help them to be more supportive I think. I could be wrong though
