Or, more accurately, right down the hill. ;)
Back in high school, we used to go hang out on Walker's Mountain, park behind one of the hotels, and smoke cigars.

Until reading this story, I didn't know that anyone still goes to that Denny's.

Keith D. McLeod issued this written statement through his attorney, Bradley Iams, after appearing in court this morning:

"On April 13, 2008, as a result of engaging in clearly inappropriate behavior, I was arrested by the Stark County Sheriff's Department. I am deeply sorry and embarrassed by my conduct. It is my intention to take responsibility for my actions and to take steps to ensure that I never find myself in this position again.

"While I wish to apologize to my family, friends and teammates for the pain and concern this incident may have caused them, I am most concerned with any potential impact that these events may have on the young people of this community who have looked up to me as a role model. Although I realize that I can't change what happened, I pledge to do my utmost to use this experience in my efforts to help others, particularly those young people, in making better decisions."

Nice statement by Keith. Hope he means it and gets back on track.

I'm sure Keith..I mean Keith's lawyer.. wrote every word of that statement. Kind of like Mike Vick's comments relayed by his lawyer just before "spring training" began for the Falcons.

That's what gets me. He's still good enough to play oversees, and he had a good reputation around the basketball community. As far as I know, he had been pretty clean until this. Doors were open. KM seemed to be so grounded in commom sense and a good work ethic. With so much going for him, what would move him to pull a gun a shoot out a window? We haven't heard anything about the circumstances. I'm very interested in the circumstances surrounding this, although something that justifies shooting a gun out of SUV window would be very extraordinary.

Many would-be opportunities for his post playing days are now gone. He could never be a candidate to coach at any level. It's hard to envision him as a scout or running camps or making appearances.

Without knowing Keith on a personal level, and not knowing the entire story, or the area he was in for that matter….the first thing that comes to my mind was maybe it was an act related to his self-protection or something along those lines. I could be way off, but if I had to take a guess, that’s what I would say without knowing anything more about the situation than the little I do. Keith is a recent NBA player and he’s made some very good money recently in the limited time he’s played in the NBA. My guess is he’s got a nice car and a nice home. If he’s carrying a weapon, it’s probably related to those situations. If he fired a weapon, my guess would be it was to deter a situation from escalating any further. My guess is he probably fired the weapon into the air and not at someone. Like I said, I really have no idea exactly what took place this is all just a guess at what “might” have happened. I’m not saying it was okay or that it was not a big deal, but I just have a feeling this situation was in reaction to something along those lines.

I can all but assure you that his personal safety was not in danger in that area.
Belden Village is not what I would call a dangerous place to be.

I have had some meals at Denny's that have made me want to shoot someone, too.

What he did was clearly wrong (as he admitted in his statement). But from the facts we know so far, he fired two shots in the air. Probably hanging with some buddies, someone dared him to do it, he was goaded (Wuss, Whimp). And a poor decision was made. Just assuming, but we have all been in that sutiation. Right?

He did't shoot at someone or pull a gun on someone (like so may of his associates seem to do). It was just some tomfoolery gone wrong. Again I am assuming (and not condoning it), but I am going to hold judgment until more facts come out.
