Netter, Eyink, Black, and Klassen are examples of VERY talented guys that never grew into their abilities. The only real success story is Len Matela. (I'm tempted to include McLeod, but he never really got going until his senior year.)
Erik Crawford, Graham Bunn, Seth Doliboa, Chris Hobson, Scott Vandermeer, Austin Montgomery, Raheem Moss, Ron Lewis, and Steven Wright all left DD and had great results elsewhere (Hobson average 25ppg at a non-D1 school). It's a whole new world now. BG basketball is fun again for the fans as well !!!
Why must we continue to bring up DD? Then go on and say these guys were talented but DD didn't let them grow into themself. Give me a break! I'll give you Netter did have some talent but didn't have much between the ears. All those other guys were role players at best. Klassen excelled at his role, picks block outs and rebounds. Last I check BG is still D1, who cares if a guys averaged 25 points or for that matter 40 points in D2 or D3. Let's move on and focus on the future and forget our struggles from the past. Go BG

I noticed that Saturday night. The ball seemed to be bouncing much higher than normal.ZiggyZoomba wrote:But... but... the floor is still hard.OSUFALCON wrote:You guys are hitting on the fundamental problem with DD's approach. I was talking about those talent players that stayed and didn't grow. DD is doing well I hear without BG and it appears BG is doing well without DD.fredthefalcon wrote:Ron Lewis was a role player?????OSUFALCON wrote:You guys are hitting on the fundamental problem with DD's approach. Yeah, I've chastised others for the same thing. I was moved to post becuase it illustrates such an important life lesson, applicable outside of basketball. Also, I still haven't gotten over some of my anger at having so many throw-away years due to thickheadedness.OSUFALCON wrote:I was talking about those talent players that stayed and didn't grow. At times, Eyink and Klassen showed flashes of brilliance. My theory is that they were role players because of the system. Those guys might've/would've really flourished under Orr.
It is good to see that our guys are playing with confidence early. I hope it can sustain throughout the season. We saw how B-Mo flourished when had confidence last season. Clements showed us flashes especially in the Illinois State game when he had confidence. Now with us having two legitimate point guards Clements won't have to take care of the ball as much. With the depth of guards I think we can play a little faster this year. I have said this in previous threads, times we were successful last year is when got out in transition and score easy buckets. With our guard depth we definitely can do that. After hearing about Thomas I think Knight and Polk are going to have a field day. With Thomas and B-Mo on the wings being deadly shooters, they can stretch the floor a bit. With that our bigs can operate a little better. I am also glad that Marschall is healthy and can give us another banger. This can move Chris to the 3 his natural position and he can post up smaller 3's and sometime 2's. Cannot wait!!!!
