This sums up how most students view the team

When did the BG News start charging for the paper?NY-BG-FAN wrote:Try telling that to a sportswriter. I don't condone a bias in either direction, but being positive usually doesn't sell papers or have people talking about your latest column.tiznow wrote:It also isn't his job to be negative either.

When I was a student (a long time ago) we went to the games to "get involved." Great atmosphere. Co-eds. And well... co-eds. My heart was broken many times in Anderson Arena, but not really by the team. Just good college fun. These guys/gals are missing out. Get out and meet some people. You/they won't regret it.

It's always sad to read about attendance problems at BG events (regardless of what sport). Obviously, it's still a problem. I attended in the mid nineties and thought our support was crap then. But, since I've graduated and been back to campus numerous times, it always appeared to me that the support has improved quite a bit. Apparently, that's not the case.

Andrew is my guy, and I want to stick up for him here. He's a very humble, reserved guy --- the last person in the newsroom who would write something negative simply to get a reaction. Let's not try to make his column anything it isn't. It's not going to be the deciding factor whether students decide to attend BG's next home game or not. It's just one man's opinion, nothing more.
If you're arguing that Andrew is an idiot for making a bold statement based on the result of one game then you're being hypocrtical as it seems you're judging him off of one column. He's done a lot of great things for the BG News, especially with his blog. So take a deep breath and relax.
Anyway, last night's win was a monster. This team has a lot of heart.

Amusing cartoon aside, I'm willing to give him another shot. College is about learning and even the biggest mistakes can be experiences. I still disagree with the column he wrote and while I don't expect writers to be cheerleaders, I at least expect them to have some pride in their school and their classmates on the court.Ryan Autullo wrote:Andrew is my guy, and I want to stick up for him here. As for the team's heart, it's games like this that aren't letting me count out another winning streak in March....and who knows?

Low Attendance
Interesting article I found on deadspin.com (cool site)
anyhow, the article (http://www.newson6.com/Global/story.asp?S=9858754) talks about how much students pay for basketball tickets. Most of the schools are covered in "Student Fees" which I assume is what BG does also.
But then i read the following:
"Oklahoma charges students $130 for a basketball season ticket, but if you attend 16 or more games (90%) you receive a full refund. Anyone who goes to at least 14 games receives a $50 credit. "
Could BG just charge more for the student fees, and give the extra as a refund if students attend X number of games? Lets be honest, people are just going to pay their student fee regardless of how much it is or what it covers. I'm sure the university has morals and standards that would prevent them from over charging... (sarcasm alert) but if they get more students into the games, this could help recruiting, therefore help the skill level on the court/field, therefore help enrollment and thus more money for the university.
And if that's not possible, i still thought that article was cool about ticket prices for other schools.
p.s. - sorry I don't know how to use the tiny URL nonsense
