what are you talking about ziggy zoomba

Post by BGSU »

When is the time to fire him? Shall we let a few more years go by without going to the tournament? No. The answer is no. And yes, in the last 36 years we haven't been to the tourney, but things have changed in this day in age. It's a business. And if the coach isnt performing his tasks or projects up to par after a few years of being at the helm...it's time for him to go. Remember...Dan was the one who left a couple years ago and quit on this program. He wanted to take the easy way out after McLeod's class left. But he got the WVU, they were in trouble, and Krebs took him back while running in the fields with his arms wide open. And Ron Lewis has been our best player since McLeod...who is better? Netter? Almanson? No. No. Netter is a poor excuse for someone who is 6'11'' and Josh Alamanson, one of the most highly touted recruits in a while has not performed at all. It's time for Dan to go. He is doing nothing for this program and will continue to do nothing.

Grant, I realize you are only a young pup, and believe me, I don't remember the 1968 tournament. My point was not that 36 years isn't painful, it is.

Rather, once the MAC got an automatic bid, the real pain began. Not being able to get a date with one of 65 girls is a lot worse than not being able to get a date with one of 16.

All those years without a MAC championship suck.

I will provide you with the location of where Hammb, ZiggyZoomba and I all sit if you provide a magazine or published source that shows Josh Almanson as a "highly touted recruit"

He was the hometown kid with tons of potential. He verballed early, but it was never a chase to get him to BGSU . . .

We have another installment on the top juniors in Ohio from Bob Weiss of Ohio Roundball Prep.

POWER FORWARD:

JOSH ALMANSON, 6-7 205, Bowling Green

Josh is a very talented combo forward, averaging 20 points and 10 rebounds in a 3-1 start this year. Rated as a top 75 player nationally in the class of '2000, according to the Hoop Scoop. He runs, jumps and shoots the ball as far as 20 feet. He handles the ball fairly well but plays mostly inside for the BG Bobcats. At the college level he will be able to go big (power forward) or small (quick forward). "I think they (OSU) look at me as playing the same position as Singleton and Sanderson, a combo forward." He carried about a 2.7 grade point last year and is up to about a 3.0 as a junior. We currently have him ranked in the top 5 as far as Ohio juniors are concerned. He's being looked at by Northwestern, Michigan State, Bowling Green, Miami and Ohio State among others. "They (Ohio State) don't really send alot of mail but Biancardi was at the game on Friday (Dec. 11th). I like them (Buckeyes) alot, probably my top choice right now. I went to a couple of football games this year and that "Future Buckeye Day" too. That was really nice. I like the way the coaches talk to you. I definitely want to sign early, I'll probably have a committment in August, right after everything (summer basketball) in July."

HoopScoop and Ohio Roundball Prep are not "legitimate" sources by any means.

Don't worry, we're easy enough to find . . .

Grant, I can't argue with most of what you said, and you said it well.

But the 36-years thing is really more like 26 years or 20 years.

Don't forget the tourney in the late-60s and early 70s was 16 and then 24 teams. Not the 65 team behemoth it is today. In fact they didn't go from 48 to 64 until sometime in the 1980s. So, while we haven't been there in 36 years, the tragedy really is not making it since the dance was expanded.
With all due respect, Lord. We have not won the MAC Championship, as required for advancement (regular season or Tourney) in 36 years. To directly quote, "36 stinking years."

Bowling Green has won several regular season titles, though.

Correct Schad! Before the NCAA decided to do the money grab and only accept conference tourney winners, the regular season title would have been enough.

By only taking the tourney winners, in effect for the small conferences, the NCAA tourney begins at the conference level. Beginning with the first conference tourney game, we are in a "lose go home" mode.

I understand that--that's why I phrased it the way I did.

By the way, I don't think the NCAA went for the money grab. I think the conferences did.

Let me put it another way.

For all the many years you needed to win the regular season, we didn't.

CORRECTION - The MAC decided the winner of the tournament gets the automatic bid, not the NCAA. If we have a problem with this, then we need to petition Krebs and the conference to change their stance.

Nice shouting, but no, I think the MAC decided to have a tournament, the NCAA said that they would take tournament winners as the automatic bids to the tournament.

Back to the 36 years. The point I'm trying to make and doing so poorly is that up until 1983 or so, even a conference championship would not have guaranteed us an automatic bid. For reference, see 1980 when Syracuse won the Big East but did not get a bid to the dance.

I back DD. I don't know what is happening behind closed doors but DD has had success here. I say honor the contract and, at that point if a change needs to be made, fine. I still will be going to my 5 or 6 games a year and support the team.

Ahhh Lord Byron....

You are wrong. The NCAA gave each conference an automatic bid to the tournament and it is up to each conference to determine how the automatic bid is awarded. Most conferences award their bid to the winner of their conference tournament, thus making the regular season non-important.

This issue came up last year and the head of the selection committee made specific mention of this.

PS - this is not shouting; THIS IS! :D
