Being an official myself, I tend not to yell at officials (anymore ;-) )
However, these things tend to change anytime a) Kent comes to town and b) the Bald guy comes to town (pregame activities are also a factor but that's neither here nor there).

I have hated the Bald guy for years, and the clear looks of apathy and/or shame after his calls drives me even crazier. He and Dan had some great battles, which I missed last night. How Orr doesn't get T'd or at least threatened to get T'd in the first 5 minutes of the half is totally beyond me. I know it's not his style, but it reflected upon the team as their mentality shifted to "welp, not much we can do." While Kent kept gaining momentum by getting the same calls. Lets have a looksie at some of those calls:

- 1st half, Kent player is falling out of bounds calling a timeout. Baldy, not sure whether to give it to him or not, calls a PHANTOM pushing foul on Dee Brown for happening to be in the vicinity (no contact whatsoever, not even close).

- How the big white kid from Kent didn't get T'd up for arguing AND BUMPING the official is HORRIBLE (the ref even put the whistle in his mouth, then didn't blow it.. mind boggling)

- Here's where Louis should have went nuts.. 2nd half, kent gets 4 QUICK fouls on BG by leaning into BG's big men as they're playing the "Tree" defense of standing still with arms straight up (this included thomas's 4th and Marschall's 3rd in this swing). That I don't understand. What exactly are BG's big men supposed to do in these situations.

- Immediately after this, JJ drives to the basket, changes directions in midair, which I'm pretty sure he's not capable of doing on his own, crashes into the baseline bleachers, no call. ENSUING POSSESSION, Chris Singletary goes down low, puts a shoulder into Otis as Otis plays the "Tree", fades away (Otis still a tree), FOUL.

That kind of inconsistency can't happen EVER.. but it always seems to whenever the Flashes come to town and why BG isn't allowed to hand out frisbees at games anymore.

Maybe the officials are helping make it happen.  I think that is the third or forth time we have had Terry Wymer this year and the bald guy never has liked us. How about that phantom jump ball he called late in the game when Dee Brown was driving to the basket?

That's the one I was thinking of! There wasn't even a KSU player touching the ball, I have NO idea how he justified a Jump Ball! Simply baffling!

I distinctly remember that call as well. It was the opposite side of the court from me, but from where we were sitting sure didn't look like any contact was made.

The fact is that Mr. Clean is the one referee that I immediately recognize and know that the game is going to be officiated poorly. I'm sure there are plenty of other bad officials that stop in Anderson, but he's the one that is consistently terrible, and is instantly recognizable.

Last night's game did nothing to improve his reputation, as it was a terribly officiated game.

1650 was the attendance! Is the athletic department doing anything to get students to a huge game like this? What a joke that we did not even come close to half selling out the arena when the first place team comes to town

If that is indeed Mr. Clean, then he looks like he let himself go and got on the Shawn Kemp diet.......

... and over 100 of those had to have been the Student Athletes honored at halftime.

But when you're in the cellar thats what happens. Case and point: Anyone catch highlights of the UNC game last night? their entire 2nd deck was empty except for maybe the first few rows.

And I'm sure people are on the UNC boards questioning what the athletic department is doing about it.

What's the process for going to games as a student, now? Is it still swipe your ID and get in or is it show your ID pre-game, and get a ticket and then enter? I know for football they weren't swiping anymore, and students had to get tickets beforehand. Is that the same with the rest of the sports? If so, that's GOT to be a huge determent.

Students will make anything they want to be a deterrent a deterrent.

But that horse has long since kicked.

It's still the swipe process 95% of the time. BG football only makes the students get tickets beforehand if the game has a legitimate chance of selling out (i.e. Boise this year, Minny last year).

But anyway, back to the thread, one positive I took from the game was the offense looked VERY good in the first half. Lots of movement, guys getting open looks from off-ball screens (especially Thomas), looking down low, playing inside out.

The only negative I saw (1st half) was how on earth do you let McElroy shoot that 3 with 20 seconds left in the half (15 on shot clock)???? Almost a HUGE momentum swing going into half, not that it mattered in the end, but that was BAD. Luckily our defense had a great possession and forced an off balance fade away 3 to end the half.

2nd half KSU was more physical, hands down.
