Gene Cross quits
Re: Gene Cross quits
He just fits in with all the other 'cheaters' up at UT. At least we don't need to worry about point shaving? Right????
Re: Gene Cross quits
Ever wonder what would happen if Tiger Woods coached the Washington Generals?

Re: Gene Cross quits
It reminds me of the reason I hate Dan Cummins. After Dakich was let go, he played the profanity laced tirade against WTOL and Cummins. Now, the Blade wants to shoot a man in the back as he's walking away from $800,000.
I have about 7 weeks left on my subscription. Then I'm ready to let the internet do my Blade reading for me. Geeze, the man already committed suicide, let him die in peace.

According to the Plain Dealer in Cleveland:
UT speculation: Less than 24 hours after the resignation of men's basketball coach Gene Cross at Toledo, names already began to surface at the MAC Tournament as possibilities to take over the Rockets. If true, it seems Toledo Athletic Director Mike O'Brien might have no qualms about raiding from within the MAC. There is speculation two of his targets will be Akron's Keith Dambrot and Western Michigan's Steve Hawkins. A third name that has surfaced is Cleveland State's Gary Waters.
All three would appear to be pipe dreams, but one name that might not -- if he is ousted at Iowa as expected -- would be former Butler head coach Todd Lichliter.
I cannot see Hawkins or Dambrot taking a step back. Waters has turned a program around and Lichliter will not take a step back. Guess UT can keep dreaming.

Re: Gene Cross quits
They're hell bent on getting someone with head coaching experience after the Board of Trustees member went public with his preferred hiring criteria, but the best get for them would be Jeff Boals, a former Akron assistant under Dambrot and currently an assistant at Ohio State. He is a top shelf mid-major recruiter and has been around long enough to know how to run a program.

Re: Gene Cross quits - more from The Blade
Kind of wondered why he would walk away from all that contract money he had left... It sounds like he was more interested in his personal life than his job. And his job results showed this.bgbill wrote:gettin' kinda weird

"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

At least *someone* on that team was doing some scoring this year!

I bet he scored '69' more than twice during the whole year.TG1996 wrote:At least *someone* on that team was doing some scoring this year!

Re: Gene Cross quits
It's obvious that someone screwed his brains out....For credibility's sake, UT has to find a guy with some success as a HC. But if you've had success as a HC, why in the blue hell would you want to step into that mess?
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

They need a Dan Dakich. Of course he'd have to fill 11 scholarships after he's doneFlipper wrote:It's obvious that someone screwed his brains out....For credibility's sake, UT has to find a guy with some success as a HC. It will be interesting to see how long it takes the program to get back to strength.

Sounds like, how? Because some "woman" who didn't even sign the letter, allegedly makes some accusations in November and releases the letter to the University in March after Cross has another lousy year? Anyone can write a letter and say whatever they want. Maybe, there's more to it, maybe not. I prefer to wait and see.

Using other people's credit cards isn't cheating- just good business sense. Good one, gm.

Re: Gene Cross quits
He's no longer relevant to us or TSUN because he's gone. Leave him go.
Seems rather obvious to me - (1) poor record and things did not work out as planned, (2) media isn't informed of every issue and (3) media goes digging for any dirt they can find. (4) The Bland attempts to salvage their own relevance by dredging the Maumee for anythig related to the situation.

Dig at the Bland if you wish, but Cross looks like he got himself in a lot of trouble:

Re: Gene Cross quits
and the article proves he's not a great guy and The Bland is out of the loop. Is his sex life part of his coaching evaluation? They aren't students he's running around with,......yet.TG1996 wrote:Dig at the Bland if you wish, but Cross looks like he got himself in a lot of trouble:
