I think it comes down to being fiscally responsible...why build something that will be hardily use as opposed to creating demand. The old model was to keep building bigger, look at the schools that built huge facilities and can't come close to filling them. I think BG is charting some new ground and building a facility that will create demand..... look at what the Bakersfield NBDL team did... they moved all games to their practice facility and and create an exclusive event now they can charge big money for the couple hundred people that attend, minus the overhead of renting a large facility. It breaks down to the simple principle that People want what they can't have.

Regardless we are in a small market in the shadow of a much larger market. We will try to fill the facility with concerts and other revenue drivers, but the big concerts are going to be held regionally in toledo, cbus, cleveland.

I think the capacity is perfect for our market and our fans. If it weren't for the need to use the building at graduation, my guess is that they would have built it even smaller.

You don't want to replicate the situation you have with Doyt L. Perry Stadium, where the historical average attendance is half of capacity.

The Stroh will draw better than the previous average in part because of simply being more accessible. Older fans, and there are ever more of them in BG, can get in and our quickly, more so than with Memorial Hall. The traffic jams and walking will be less than what it was. Places to eat are literally across the street. Access to the highway couldn't be easier. In every way, this location is ideal.

Then the build itself will be a more appealing, and better smelling venue. The game experience should be more fan and family friendly.

Boys State should love the place.

And then I can see many smaller events going there. Not simply concerts too. Smaller trade shows, computer shows, etc. The only down side is having so few quality hotels in BG.

BGSU has a formidable array of facilities current and future.

As I have posted on this board multiple times of the years, I have grandparents that would love to go to the games that just cannot due to the poor location of Anderson.

It is asking a lot for some people to drive around all night looking for a parking spot because the lots are filled with students in class, only to then walk 1/2 mile in 20 degree weather to watch a basketball game. One of the things I'm most looking forward to with the Stroh Center opening is how nice it will be to actually drive to an accessible location and have a shorter walk to the games.

I saw Chicago at Centennial Hall (believe that was the name at the time) in Fall 1984.



Regarding the size of the Stroh Center - it's perfect for what we are going to be using it for. When it sells out for every home basketball game for five years, then we can talk about having built it too small. Make it THE TICKET IN NORTHWEST OHIO that EVERYBODY wants (even h20ville rockette). We can bring in entertainers like Engelbert Humperdink, Bobby Vinton, Bobby Goldsboro, Tony Orlando & Dawn, or better yet Roy Clark, LuLu Roman, JoDee Messina, or my favorite - TOM T. HALL!!!!! and the like to a full house.

Although expanding the arena didn't seem to help much, either... Thanks Grant, for posting the vids. The new place looks FANTASTIC!!

I think it is an obsolute stitch how they are "dissing" the Stroh Center on the UT website. About how it looks like a double wide, pole barn, seating etc. When you get right down to the nitty gritty, it is the team that is playing that decides the atmosphere of the arena, and this arena is going to be perfect for our situation.......not Toledo's ghetto population, but good for BG's fans! After all......Toledo's city league POY is coming to BG isn't he? Must be a reason!!!

Not sure- they went out of the concert business for awhile due to inadequate support for the huge speaker and light systems in old Savage. There have been several since the restoration but, I think, not giant names in the industry-OAR comes to mind as the first one after the re-opening.

And H2Oville will pass on all of the above: Get North Mississippi All-Stars, WSP, Shine Down, etc- maybe.
