The NCAA tournament is the goal, period. The NIT and CTI give teams a game or more against decent D1 competition, and that's it. These games mean less than o-o-c games because they the outcomes are obviously irrelevant to the NCAA committee. What's more, they keep our players out of class and get in the way of recruiting. The NIT might be worth doing, but paying to play in the CTI??? Bah!

Nobody gives a flying padoodle about the CBI and CIT anyway. They serve no purpose, aside from more games and practices late in the year for players and coaches against other likewise average/mediocre competition. I also agree that they take unnecessary time away from class.

We can always look into participating in the other postseason basketball tournaments:

CGI: Games are merely virtual
CTU: Must suck up to tournament director Bauer to get an invite
CCCP: Risk communist association
CNN: Games officiated by Anderson Cooper and Larry King
CIA: Sites and locations cannot be confirmed nor denied
CBA: Special guests: DeMaurice Smith and Roger Goodell
CSI: Games played in Las Vegas, Miami and New York
NAS: Participation would lead to a beef with Jay-Z
NGO: Doctors Withour Borders provides all medical care
NIP: Free plastic surgical procedure with every win
NSA: All locker room conversations monitored
NRA: Fans must pass through metal detectors
NACL: Teams with a salty style of play desired

The MAC is now 2-0 as Ohio just beat Marshall in Huntington. Kent State plays at St. Mary's later tonight in the NIT.

As for these tournaments, without a doubt I would want to play in the NCAA Tournament, period. But being that BG hasn't won a postseason game in any tournament since 1975 (36 years ago in the NCI), yeah, I would even take playing in the CBI or CIT to try and get a win. With the NCAA, NIT and now the CBI and CIT, not getting to play in one of these tournaments in basketball is almost like not going to a bowl game in football anymore.

Sorry, there's so many of these tournaments out there I forgot a few.

We should seriously think about playing in the NPR as they might lose some of their funding next year. The NASA hasn't been popular since the late 1960's so we can probably avoid that one. The NAG insists players wash their face and brush their teeth before games and we definitely don't need that. You might catch a speech by Haley Barbour at the CPAC and unlike the CDC they don't recommend you wear a mask and latex gloves during the games. The NRDC is a good one but they insist that teams travel by high speed rail instead of on gas-guzzling buses. The CPR is out there but participation requires a 5 hour Red Cross course which might conflict with class schedules.

All the pre season polls mean is that a lot of the voters selected us to finish 5th or 6th in East....they don't vote on the whole conference only divisions. In the west there was obviously a lot of uncertainty over where teams would finish in the west, other than Toledo.

Not sure what the point is? Maybe next year....or the year after...or 2014. Amazing how our sports finish so bad in the MAC...hopefully the new president will get some new athletic leadership and commit to having strong athletics. What were doing now isn't working....just look at the standings.
