Re: UB at BG
If we made the tournament I would bet that they would bring him back. This is a new AD that doesn't have the long term frustrations for the program that we have yet. If we make the tournament it will be because everything clicks and we are playing well. With just 1 senior that bodes well for next year. I would assume that if we made the tournament that he would be sought after elsewhere, which is a win win for us.
Re: UB at BG
He is a craptastic coach. Just horrible at everything you'd want a coach to do. Because of this I'm very secure in saying this discussion is irrelevant because we're not winning the MAC, and we're sure as hell not winning the National Title.
He doesn't recruit worth a s**t. He has a strange love of tall guys who cannot score or rebound at the HS level, they then don't do either of those things at the collegiate level either. He seems to value athleticism above any semblance of actual basketball ability, then shows no ability to "coach them up" as almost nobody in his tenure has improved as a player.
He has consistently taken decent athletes and not developed their basketball skills one iota. We haven't seen enough of Denny to draw any conclusions on him, but he is the only hope to say Orr has recruited even one single solitary AVERAGE shooter. I'm not looking for a superstar, I'm just saying even average has completely baffled them. We're consistently among the worst free throw shooting teams in the MAC.
He has consistently fielded teams that don't play to their potential. He's consistently gotten the least out of what little talent he has recruited. He's consistently put players out there that play selfish basketball, and he allows them to play the team right out of games. He doesn't engage the fans/media in any way to make people want to follow this program. The only thing that he's done worth a damned that you'd ever ask your coach to do is A) not embarrass the university, and B) keep the kids on track as STUDENT athletes (as far as I know). Well I'm sorry but that's not enough for me. It should be a given that you expect any coach to keep the program clean and keep the kids pursuing their degrees.
I have watched 90+% of his home games in his tenure and he is the most boring and awful coach imaginable. We play boring basketball. We don't build anything. And when we s**t the bed with lousy losses he doesn't even seem to care. There is literally NOTHING this team can accomplish this year that will make me want to watch another wretched season of his boring brand of basketball. I've watched it for 7 years, and I have seen enough to know that anything good that they do is purely luck and has nothing to do with his coaching ability. If he had an ounce of ability to lead a program he would have shown it by now and, oh I don't know, maybe had a 20 win season? Hell even above .500 more than ONCE in 7 years!?
People look at this team and say they're inconsistent. That's all well and good when it's a single season issue, but it's not and this team has been remarkably consistent for the past 7 years. Every year they win between 13-16 games (one outlying 19 win season). Every year they lose early in the MAC tournament, oftentimes as the home team or favorite in the game. Every year we talk about how maddenly inconsistent they are. Every year we struggle to find shots on offense. Every year we can't shoot free throws. Every year we talk about the substitutions and rotations making no sense.
The program has consistented itself right to near complete irrelevance. A lucky streak to end this season will NOT change what this coach is, nor will it change what next year would look like with him in charge. He should have been told going into this season that he can do absolutely NOTHING to change his fate and that he's only here because we're too cheap to buy him out. He should have been given this notice so he can keep his resume polished and be ready to move on as soon as the season concludes. Similarly, the AD should have been looking for and talking to coaching candidates (or at least their agents) for the past several months.
There is no scenario that should subject what little remains of this fanbase to another season of this.

Re: UB at BG
I have said it before and I will say it again, if this team were to win the MAC tournament and get to the NCAA tournament, ending the longest current drought in D1 basketball I believe? COACH ORR WOULD BE RENEWED, probably a 2 year extension. If you do not think so, I will say it again, YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND HOW COLLEGE ATHLETICS WORK, there have been plenty of people before Orr at the mid major level to be on a hot seat and get to the tournament to have their contract renewed. This should not even be discussed because I still do not see this team winning the MAC tournament, there is no consistency to string together that kind of run for a week, and no need to discuss it because HE WOULD BE BACK IF THEY WON, no debate necessary.
If you choose to continue to argue this then I challenge you to find a Coach in the MAC, Horizon, any Low-Mid Major out there that made the tournament in the last year of their contract to not have it renewed/extended/or find another (better) job.

Never once did I argue that he wouldn't get an extension. I argue that he SHOULDN'T get an extension, and if he DID get an extension I will finally join the masses as giving up on this program.
It's irrelevant because this team isn't winning anything meaningful for all the reasons that I pointed out above. I shudder to think that you might be right so I'm now forced to root against us in the MAC tournament...not that it actually matters.
