No videos?

I saw this kid play. I wasn't overly impressed. Not a great athlete. Good body control around the basket. His team includes Indiana commit Jerome Hunter. He just seemed like another kid on the floor despite his size. I think Stacey was there when we watched him and he seems to be the guy in on the offer. He was a Jr so he can always get better and big guys often grow into their bodies athletically.
Found a video of his team during the season. He just stands around most plays. Doesn't seem to fight for rebounds etc. He facilitates well for a big but doesn't run the floor well. If you jump to 12:45 on the video you will see 2 plays in a row that show a decent offensive game. Then continue to the next game. He is matched up vs UNC bound Manley and looks ok shooting. Might be the kind of player that you don't play early but develops into a decent starter as a JR and SR. There are many worse things you can say about a big. In the MAC you need 2 of them. If one is super athletic and one is just solid you can be ok.

Some thinking out loud about College recruiting. I wonder your thoughts. These are not fully parsed out by any means.

1. Transfers are a big problem. I hate that guys don't see PT right away and transfer. ( I do see the positives of opening the door for a potential great players to come in but as long as all 13 guys are not average guys I am ok with a D2 talent playing all 4 years at BG, we made a commitment to him. Here I am seeing Malik and Garrett Mayleben. Neither I could see playing a huge role here. Both could still add to the character and personality of the team. A big thing when there are 13 guys(Or 12))
2. Can you possibly avoid transfers in some cases by recruiting ok hs players who are all right with not playing right away? (We have 6 freshman on next years team. Half of the team. While there are very few set positions and people will transfer one way to look at it's possible that another Freshman might struggle for PT. (The other is that if you are a star the team needs one) I wonder if a guy like McNamara makes a ton of sense. You come in, maybe redshirt for a year and then you are in a rotation and then you start your Jr-Sr year. You're patient and it pays off with lots of PT in a great program near your HS when you are in your 4th and 5th year of a program.
3. This builds your team long term in terms of depth and leadership.
4. When you are going after those guys character should be first priority. (I wonder how much of team building is finding personalities that match up. If you have some of your leaders (Caldwell-Wiggins-Frye) do we build around them with character guys?

I could just be trying to talk myself into a player that I am not that enamored with in McNamara.

I always say that teams need to build the Bigs and PGs first. Something I have definitely learned after many discussions here. I think it's a good sign that we are going hard after 6-4 - 6-6 Wings.

Isn't Drew Peterson in prison for killing his 3 wives. Oh wrong Drew Peterson. Have to wonder if this kid is related in any way. Same name. Both from Chicago area. I would hate to have the same name as a murderer (not fair to the kid).

I'm at peace with transfers. It is the player's choice to do what he will with his career. Transferring is like market activity in response to a player's desirability and a program's desirability. Transferring is a player's opportunity to improve his lot in life, and it allows (new) coaches to form teams while still taking care of the rejected player(s).

I don't think we need to be strict with how we look at market principles.

PG Betrard committed to Towson where he's 2nd on depth chart at least. Jack Clark trimmed his commitment list. BG was cut.

Just a quick update from the last three weeks. Pickron makes his pick tomorrow. He had a recent official visit to Stoney Brook. Forestter's
axe fell on us earlier but he decided on Indiana this week. Vincent Williams lopped us from his list. Akron and UT still involved. Not much word on the remaining players per twitter etc. List is getting fewer.

My rankings of who I would like and who I expect to sign.

Tier 1
1. Ricky Lindo-Love the video, my favorite of the group. Super athletic, quick and big hops, decent handles and shooting. Could be a centerpiece to a team. Recent East Carolina offer not yet on Verbal Commits.
2. Kiyon Boyd partially tore his ACL. He was getting some high major interest but still getting offers from schools similar to us. Might be an interesting one who sneaks to us due to the injury.

Tier 2
3. Austin Rotroff-6-9 big looks like a true center with some strength and athleticism.
4, Maurice Murray-Athletic, active and 6-6
5. Elijah McNamara-6-9 and overall a good kid. Could develop
6. Amari Kelly-6-8 Big La Tech in home visit coming up.

Tier 3
7. Drew Peterson-Not a great athlete but good motor and fundamentally good. 6-6. Will need to add weight.
8. Mikal Dawson-Not sure he adds much to the squad

Tier 4.....we are not getting these guys
9. Adrien Nunez-We were in early on him but Michigan and Uconn are on him and he is officially visiting Penn State this weekend.
10. Jaxson Hayes-Has an OSU offer.

Globe, Ricky Lindo Jr. is listed on VerbalCommits as a Junior. I see Murray and Rotroff as the strongest possibilities before dropping down to your Tier 3 or elsewhere. Peterson actually physically resembles a taller version of Dylan Frye. Thin and young looking.
