When I got onto live stats, we were down 23-8. Wiggins had a 49% usage rate and 2 points.
And 1 rebound while CMU's top rebounder at the time had 6.
And is a guard.
Christ - why feed him the ball when that is pretty much what always happens?
After that, stopped feeding him the ball judging by his usage rate going down down down all game long. And he started rebounding. He even got 2 blocks for the firs time I can remember. And wouldn't you know it, we started playing better overall.
He got his touches and his points - but he got them through the flow and through offensive rebounds and through being in such a great spot to score that the other team fouled him. Not this iso post up BS. We have GOT to stop that right now. We cannot afford to go 15 points down all the time just to try to establish Wiggins.
If we are trying to show that he has pro potential, we are making the reverse argument. Here's a guy that you CAN NOT give the ball to down low and expect good things to happen. He isn't going to rack up assists, and he isn't going to score efficiently in those situations.
Tell him to protect the damn rim, get ALL the rebounds, and hit the FT at a high rate to convince scouts his shot may be workable enough to eventually become a stretch big. IF he wants pro ball, that's his way in - not as the post up king.

I grew up in Anderson arena from 76 - 95. It was not always packed (holiday games were dead, lets face it). But the vast majority of the time, we had 2000+, 3000+ if the team was even mediocre. Band was always rockin, student section was nutty and loud all the time. It was a great, small environment for hoops. It was also ancient and it showed. If a recruit came in to that place when there was not a game going on, it would just look like a small D1 gym in need of a face lift and lacking all the latest doodads.
If you came in during a game that anybody at all cared about, you would get 3000 - 4000 people rocking the hell out of a 4500 person gym.
But after Wynert, our coaches lacked personality. All of them until Dakich 2.0 were slightly above .500 for wins. The stat that this win guarantees our 4th winning season since 2002 shows you where we've been lately. Dakich 2.0 was bad, Orr was worse, and Huger has been no great savior.
If he stops randomly trying to abuse people with Wiggins and instead lets us do what we are actually good at (constant guard attack from all angles), he might be another "over .500" coach. If he really and truly pulls an anal-cranial extraction, he might give us a few years of truly exciting, dominate-the-MAC type of ball.

I agree that the current student location sucks in the Stroh, but you can't really move them without pissing off some wealthy donors or dedicated fans. There's a reason why the student section at sports is segregated; students stand the entire game. At hockey, depending on where the puck is at the time, you cannot see it past the students. Now, when I was a student, I stood pretty much the entire time. Mostly out of habit, sometimes out of necessity (everybody else is standing, so I have to stand to see). Now that I'm in the general seating area, it's annoying to have blocked views all the time. The older people that yelled at us to sit down at football games were annoying then, but I empathize now. If you put students down low at basketball, you might as well block off the ten rows/seats above/beside them because those people won't be able to see.

Where do you get usage rate from? That's a great statDiemilkweed wrote:When I got onto live stats, we were down 23-8. Wiggins had a 49% usage rate and 2 points.

It was on live stats. Never sure how to get where, because half the time the stats don't start gettign filled in until half way through the 2nd half, but if you manage ot get to the part showing individual stats in a box score format for the team (tabs to pick either team), then way off to the right near total points and such, is usage rate.
