Re: Status of Ball State Game
That was the biggest rob job I have seen since we were at BSU in the 90's.
That was fu**ing criminal.
Ignore the fact that the referees were in love with Sparks all game long, I had a post in mind detailing 4 different plays that they called wrong that all benefited Sparks.
The end of that game was putrid. Complete phantom call on Curtis on the 3 pointer by Bumbalow gives them 4 points.
Then, they knee Gordon in the back of the thigh and knock him out of bounds and instead of free throws, they get the ball.

Re: Status of Ball State Game
We won that game by at least 10 points if you call it even reasonably fairly.
Re: Status of Ball State Game
The worst execution in the last minute I have ever seen. Huger had two timeouts, couldn’t get the ball inbounds twice. The inbounded could have run the baseline but didn’t. I like Huger, he’s a great person but he’s not a head coach. Horrible loss. This was a win they had in the bag.
Re: Status of Ball State Game
Did we have a time out left to use?
Re: Status of Ball State Game
Lot of questions about our end of game rotation but after all the ticky tack fouls called at the second half that's when they choose to swallow the whistle? Ridiculous
Can't give the refs a chance to decide the game

Re: Status of Ball State Game
I disagree. Both of those calls were egregious misses by the referees. Curtis never touched Bumbalow. And Gordon got kneed in the back of the leg and shoved out of bounds. From a standstill. It's not even like it was questionable that it was an outside force as opposed to his own, already stopped, momentum.hammb wrote: ↑Sat Jan 01, 2022 8:19 pm Brutal down the stretch. Fouling a 3 point shooter. Falling out of bounds. Failing to box our on a missed free throw. Man...bad loss. Yeah, both of those calls could've gone either way, but they didn't, and we didn't make any plays.
Real disappointment was that Gordon and Curtis had done well down the stretch up until those major gaffes.
Those were in no way "could go either way" calls.

Re: Status of Ball State Game
No - we didn't. The refs reached in and stole it from us. They handed BSU 4 points on a phantom foul, and then handed them the ball when they shoved us out of bounds."
That's not even mentioning the clear love affair they had for Sparks all game long.
In terms of on court play we beat them by at least 10. The refs made all fo that difference up adn then some.
Re: Status of Ball State Game
Not the best execution late but that game shouldn’t even have been close. The insane goaltending call and tackling Myron is as bad as it gets. You can’t find a worse display than that.
Re: Status of Ball State Game
We still had two timeouts. Curtis ran toward Huger to call a timeout and Huger signaled him on. He stinks as a coach. Flat out stinks. Next games 4 against Miami, Buffalo, Ohio, and Toledo.

Re: Status of Ball State Game
Sparks calls showing the refs love for him
1. Shoulders Reece on a shot, Reece gets called.
2. One of 2 guys who both body Reece on layup attempt - no call.
3. Plowden tries to not move, Sparks flails and shoves and slams and Plowden does not move - foul on Plowden.
Grrr,,, there was a 4th but it is gone from my head as a result of that end of the game bullshit.

Re: Status of Ball State Game
I watched it, I saw what happened. The refs certainly didn't help whatsoever, but we still choked that one away. Not blaming Reece at all for the loss, but when he missed that point-blank shot at the rim from like a foot away, I just had a bad feeling this game was going to come down to 1 or 2 point loss in the end. The bottom line is, we didn't close out the game, we fail to secure the win. We led by 5 with :30 left and lost. Bad refs or not, we allowed those guys to hang around all game long, and when BG stumbled, they pounced. They found a way to win, BG found a way to lose. I think BG is a better team than Ball State, but we found a way to lose when we had a win sitting in our hand for the taking.Diemilkweed wrote: ↑Sat Jan 01, 2022 8:24 pmNo - we didn't. Re: Status of Ball State Game
Watching on replay.
14-8 with 12 minutes in. Seems pretty good
Love Gabe O'Neill as a backup to Reece. He provides something unique and has to be super frustrating for guys who are used to guarding Reece.
Plowden stepped on their coaches foot. What the hell.
Samari Curtis is a great 5th starter. Love what he brings. I was doubtful seeing his tapes before the season but his ability to play the 1 along with the 2-3 make him ideal with Metheny's size and scoring ability.
Reece and Plowden both out currently. Going with mall ball and it's working 20-11
This game should push and show us about O'neils conditioning
Cam Young looks a little bit lost and not confident when he is out there. I hope things come together for him and he finds role
O'Neil just boxing out and picking is a menace
This lineup is bad to taking ill advised early shot clock shots. Young and Turner
Turner with the great drive....he has to be the starting PF next year.
Posted that too soon....
Mills is aggressive and athletic but kind of a mess
Fulcher-Young and Mills seem like they all have huge ceilings but play too erratically.
Do you all love just seeing Matiss out there. He has to be a fan favorite after all he has gone through
Plowden is so good. I find it hard to believe he can't find a space in the league. I know it won't be as a draft pick, but he will get a call and be even better as a rotational player then he was as a centerpiece.
O'Neill with the jumper.
So next year
1 Metheny-Fulcher-(r)Lightfoot
2 Curtis-Mills
3 Fields-Young
4 Turner-Kulackovskis(?)
5 Reece-O'Neill-(r)Etim
So many easy dunks for them. Transition d wasn't there
You don't want O'Neill playing this amount of minutes every night. But he is a great second big
Guess who's back...Diggs is back....Diggs is back Diggs is back
Their coach looks like he could be on an adventure with Merry and Pip
This coaching isn't good. If you have Kulackovskis and Diggs on the same roster. How are you not spacing the floor ESPECIALLY when you have guys like Curtis and Mills and Plowden who can get to the hoop. I want to see a lineup of Curtis-Metheny-Plowden-Diggs-Matiss
Reece is playing dumb with these fouls
Metheny isn't doing much lately.
Myron Gordon involved with a scuffle. Took 25 minutes to figure out what was going on
Gordon in at the end 2 straight trips to the foul line and nails them all
Gordon 7 pts....Wow....what a weird situation
Lineup with a minute to go: Gordon-Curtis-Diggs-Plowden-Turner
Gordon for Metheny
Turner for Reece
Our D is pretty terrible at times. I guess everyone's is.
If we lose this game thats nuts.
I hate when someone is shooting a 1 and 1 and we don't have 2 guys in there. That was about an hour ago but I still hate it
Thats one of the worst calls I have ever seen. He pushed him out of bound. Just awful
Huger deserves to be fired.
His lineups at the end were atrocious. We had the ball and a timeout and 7 seconds and he doesn't call timeout to run a play.
Where was Joe Reece?
