That 11 point lead was half way through the first. Norfolk State won their conference last year and returns the player of the year. They were at home.

I'm not mad about this loss. Although, if Huger could figure out to NOT put Oneal on the floor as the only guy taller than 6'4" for 5 minutes, that would be nice.

Matheny was red hot most of the night just enough to keep us in the game with a team we couldn't defend to save our lives. They were long and athletic.

Fun game at least.

We wasted a good Metheny game. That’s brutal.

Don’t worry folks, Michael Huger has just enough cream puffs left to allow him another winning record in the non conference.

fell asleep putting the kids to bed. Thanks for the recap posts. Seems like we should win if Metheny scores 28 and our pg has 10 assists.

I don't think we'd beat that Norfolk team more than once in 10 tries. With Matheny's nuclear (even their coach commented "guy averages like 6 a game and got 28 tonight!?") tonight felt like the one that we should win.

They were bigger than us across the board. They were equally athletic or more athletic than us across the board. Their lead guard is a 5th year senior preseason conference POY pick. We not only couldn't get stops, we couldn't force them even to attempting difficult shots. They absolutely schooled us off the dribble when they went iso, and when they moved the ball carved up our defense like a turkey. I thought they were gonna hit 90+

You don't usually get scheduling kudos for playing the MEAC team but they're the favorites in that conference and could easily be a tournament team. They were tough to get a gauge on because they had easily beaten all the teams they should beat, and lost to some big time programs when they've tried to play up. Watching them though, they're a good squad.

The bigger issue, like always, is we shouldn't be entering games where we're hoping to win 1 of 10 tries against MEAC teams. But here we are. The MAC conference ranking is bad this year (behind the MEAC actually). In a normal MAC year this BG team doesn't win 6 conference games. Maybe the conference is down enough to artificially inflate Huger even further. And luckily he's still got a couple D2 games in his pocket to help pad his resume as well.

The state of this program, given our financial resources, is disturbing.
