I know that Germain has been an asset to the team, and the determination, effort and even courage he has shown with all he's been through dwarfs that of many people, but it was a drug arrest. He didn't die, he wasn't seriously injured in an accident, he (messed) up. Regardless of what he meant to the team from a support factor from the bench, he didn't cost them 30 or 35 points. I think it sucks that he found himself in that situation, especially after he looked poise to make SOME kind of ANOTHER comeback, but its his bed, he has to lie in it. When it comes down to it, on the floor, this was pretty much the same team that has been playing together for a month and a half with out Fitch, and they got drilled. Not to drag out a tired old football analogy, but this wasn't Omar Jacobs or Charles Sharon being suspended or injured for a game two nights before it went down. This team had a division title wrapped up with a win last night, and they pissed one down their leg. Plain and simple.

I love G. Fitch for the effort and dedication he has given to my school and its athletic program, but to say that, in the condition he's in now, being held off the bus for a game caused them to lose by 25 is crap. You all know it, and I know it. I just can't believe that anyone would buy into it.
Sorry, but team distractions can cause teams to lose by 25. This was a distraction.

TG,
I wasn't saying we lost by 25 cuz Fitch wasn't there...I was questioning our efforts last night. And I was agreeing on blowing a big chance.

Freak, I don't think you said anything that pointed the "blame" at Fitch. Its just the general feel. I think its crap that a team can lose by 25 (after cutting it down from 34 once they put the towel boys in) and blame that on a kid being held off the bus because of legal issues that he brought upon himself. If they lose by 2 or 3, maybe even 8 or 9, maybe I see that argument, but to be mopped off the floor before the first media timeout? And forcing your coach to get a "motivational T" before his sport coat comes off? And doing so in probably one of the top 5 most important regular season games in the last 15 years of the program? I don't buy it. Some distractions, I might buy into causing a lopsided game, but this one, I think its just another excuse for a poor performance.

As I said a couple weeks ago, I'm happy as a freakin' clam that this team has accomplished what it has, that its in this position to begin with, a win and some help away from a shared division title after so many here and conference wide had us pegged for middle of the pack at best. Maybe Western really IS that much better than us, maybe our magic dust has worn off for the year, or maybe we'll buckle down and drill the Chips, and make a run in Cleveland. I don't know. But what I do know, and I'll stand firm on, is that believing that G. Fitch's absence led to that performance is, in my mind, nothing more than another excuse.

TG, you are way off here. Had Fitch been there we probably only would have lost by 23 or 24. Whole new ballgame.

I never "blamed" Germain for the loss, I agree with him we lose by 22 or 23. Other than Floyd and Austin, he's the biggest OFFENSIVE liability we have. And Austin has been showing flashes of brillance lately, so Germain may be falling into that precocious second spot behind our fearless leader.

My point to the whole post was that Germain's actions led the attention of the team to be diverted. I think it is up to the coaching staff to get us refocused and realigned to get ready to play and I'm not sure taking technicals with 16:30 left in the first half and down 13-2 is the best way to "rally" a team regardless of what Dan says.

Saturday is an absolute must-win. We won by 4 on the road up there, but many of the students will be home or down south on spring break and we may not have the intimidating Anderson presence that we're known for.

Ok option, after disagreeing with you in another thread I am right with you here. The men are not as mentally prepared as I think they need to be and I put that on the shoulders of the coaching staff. The coaching staff above all others should know by this point in the season how to focus this team.
